I had the same issue( See post #4 ). With the recent install of Kubuntu
Karmic, mic is working out of the box ( it's a clean install, not an
upgrade )

Mic starts to work after runing AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.17.sh [1] which
downloads and compiles ALSA version 1.0.20. The recorded sound is a bit
scrachy/noisy though. I have an Acer Aspire 5520G with an NVidia MCP67
HDAudio (ALC268 Analog).

running latest updates in Jaunty 9.04 and the Internal mic still doesn't
work. ALSA version is 1.0.18. In Volume Control Preferences I checked
all available boxes... Watching the level monitor in Sound Recorder
shows a very slight increase in white noise when you turn up the

Me again. The internal mic does work for the generic Intel HD Audio. But
as I said, it's a very limited driver with just two volume controls:
Master and Capture. And it's not possible to disable the internal
speakers.

Though I run Gentoo, not Ubuntu, I compiled and installed alsa-driver
and alsa-lib from the official page (version 1.0.18) and the internal
mic is still NOT working. The problem is exaclt the same.
Now reverting back to Gentoo's drivers...
I do remember that the internal mic actually worked with
dv6745us, no data from mics. I noticed that there seem to be 3 mics:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ amixer -c 0|grep Mic
Simple mixer control 'Docking Mic',0
Simple mixer control 'External Mic',0
Simple mixer control 'Internal Mic',0
wondering how I choose which apps are using?

Confirmed with dv6000

I, too, am struggling with the microphone. One major problem is in the
Sound Recorder. On my laptop, the moment the Record button is
pressed, the Length readout begins increasing dramatically, reading
several minutes after only a few seconds. Specs of my system follow:

Alejandro, could you please provide more specifics so we could try to
reproduce your results? I mean Alsa version from sources, options to
compile it, etc. Any help will be appreciated. This is almost the only
thing that is stopping my family at large to swith fully to linux. Tks a
lot.

Latest alsa compiled from source works properly with this device.

Same problem here. Compaq F755. Tried to compile and install ALSA
1.018rc3 but then got atheros wifi not to work so reverted back (frankly
not sure if ALSA was properly built). Anyway mic never, ever worked.
Tried with Hardy vanilla install, nope.
