and changes the brightness through HAL; so this is very likely a HAL (or
lower layer) problem.

I also experince this on a HP 6720s laptop, but I observe such problems mainly
when laptop is plugged into main power.
Also, if I open kpowersave configuration window, set the brightness to some
level and then close the configuration window, the brightness jumps back to
100% immediately.

Hello Felix,
I have a similar problem on a Dell 640m, with an intel 945GM integrated video,
running Kubuntu 8.04.
Although I can change the brightness with Fn+Up and Fn+Down without problems,
after unlocking the screens the brightness setup is not remembered, more over,
it is wrong indicated

I Checked that it is not necessary to wait until the screen is locked to
reproduce the situation I described in my previous post. I stopped the screen
saver just one second after it started, no password dialog happened, but the
brigthess was decreased although Power Manager stay

1. Change brightness in kde-guidance-powermanager applet to 40%
2. Everything will be fine
3. Lock your screen Main menu Lock session
4. Screen goes black

Hello Andreas,
first I updated BIOS to new version but it didn't help. Then I did the
steps mentioned:
1. I adjusted screen brightness to 42% in kde-guidance-powermanager
2. Did the other steps...
6. When my session came back, brightness was much to bright again; When I
pressed brightness down
