You
Sorry for the long silence. I never installed restricted-modules, so it seems
like it can't be that:
$ dpkg -l linux* | grep 2.6.27
un linux-doc-2.6.27 none
(no description available)
ii linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic
This might be a duplicate of Bug #263059.

I can confirm this behaviour on a T60 and can without a doubt say it's
due to the iwl3945 driver. Bug 275227 is similar. The workaround for me
as been to blacklist iwl3945 for a successful boot then modprobe it.

I *think* I had this with a Dell Inspiron 6400... but it happens rarely.
I'll try to track this down when it happens again.

You received this bug
Tim, care to confirm if removing linux-restricted-modules resolves this
for you as well?
Reinhard, just curious which restricted drivers are you using? Also,
care to attach your lspci -vvnn output
I'm going to tentatively reassign this to the linux-restricted-modules
package. Thanks.
**
I'm not aware of actually using any restricted modules. that package is
installed automatcally AFAIUI.
however that package also ships various firmware files that I need for
my usb dvb-t card.

+ (some) thinkpads hard hang at boot
** Description changed:
- I downloaded and installed the 2.6.27-1-generic package. (See bug 218700
- for precisely what I did.)
+ symptoms:
- If I chose a normal boot, it
problem seems to go away when I remove the restricted-modules package.
