to Mia, I have the same problem in 10.04, and only in 10.04. 9.04/9.10
works fine on my Dell e6400. At first I thought it was because of pause

time it happens, I have to unplug the battery, cut AC power, then try to
power on,
thank you Soren. I will try it and report.

Helped me. Edubuntu installs itcalc-client. In 9.10 it installed on the

could not figure out why. I later installed it on my 9.10 Ubuntu (AMD

I have found that ica was installed automatically when I installed some

To get rid of it, use:

Dear all,
I'm using kubuntu karmic with old nvidia graphics. I was fighting with 100% CPU
usage in xorg very often. I had to install lxde as an alternative to kde, to be
able to use my computer at all.
Few days ago I have finally found my problem - the CPU hungry task was
ica. I don't know why
i am running karmic + radeon graphics card.
when only one user is logged in everything works as expected.
as soon as i start a guest session or log in a second user the system begins to
behave sluggish and xorg cpu usage rises.
when this second user starts firefox the system gets unusable and
It happens to me too. Xorg takes more CPU% ~ 30%.
Also, when I use exaile and change the song track, the system monitor
shows 100% cpu usage spikes.
I haven't seen this while I used ubuntu 9.04.
I am having Intel core 2 duo T5450 processor with 2 GB RAM.

I have the problem on a notebook; Xorg runs with 100% CPU, in a

I think it mostly happens after suspend-to-ram from a console.
Going into the X session and waiting some seconds usually helps;
although then hal seems to get into a process-creation loop, and
I have Ubuntu 9.04 and when I installed Firefox 3.5 and Opera any time I
have flash streaming video cpu usage goes through the roof. My cpu fan

logging in.
For me killall vino-server drops Xorgs CPU usage from 80 % to 30 %
(still outrageously over the top, but atleast it doesn't cause the
system to crawl). So I guess it's no remote desktopping with Ubuntu,
then..? I have Ubuntu 8.10.

I hate to just be another me too but I'm running Intrepid. Every few
days I have to reset this box from the power switch. The culprit in
every case is that Xorg has completely frozen and the box is totally
unresponsive... sometimes I can move the mouse but all Keyboard escapes
are non-functional.
As you say it might not be linked to Xorg. But the problem was so
painfull for us and after weeks of unsuccesful trials to find out its
origin, we have decided to revert to Ubuntu 8.04 and this has completly
solved our issue. Our server is now running smoothly, what a pleasure !
