OK, I installed Fontforge and did some checking. All of the faces I cited do have all four standard fonts (regular, italic, bold, bold- italic). However, they all have exactly the same number of glyphs for each of the four fonts. Furthermore, I have numerous other fonts installed on my computer

Aethralis, Please look at your results for Liberation again. I just tried both Sans and Serif and the characters did not drop out. However, the three glyphs (026A, 0361 and 0283) changed to a different font when I applied bold. You can see that they are a different font because the characters are

I also show the issue with Junicode in Scribus 1.3.4 in Hardy. Screenshot attached. One thing I noticed in OOo is that using Junicode condensed bold works, it is only the Junicode regular where I see the issue. Scribus drops the characters even using condensed. ** Attachment added: Scribus

Here you go - attached screenshots. I tried with different fonts (Linux Libertine. Liberation, Liberation Sans, Junicode Condensed, Junicode) and only Junicode had problems with bold. Liberation to my eye does not change into Liberation Sans, the ɪ and ʃ look a bit bolder than should though, but
