After a week usb broke again. I use the older kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
now - there everything used to work fine. I hope someone looks into this
for the newer kernel...

package with source (which didn't work out), now I installed the distribution

I experienced the same problem running with the same hardware. I have an
inspiron 1501.
Zasq, I also installed the linuxant and hsfmodem drivers. I recently got
fed up and did a clean install with kernel 2.6.28.11 and haven't
upgraded my kernel yet until this is sorted out.

Sound output is working, have not tested recording, although that's not a
priority. An update should be suddenly break the sound card drivers. This
should be fixed as an update to the

(or any drivers) when it had worked properly previously. :-)

This is probably my final update on this. Seems like it was related to the
linuxant driver. Out of desperation (and mainly because my /home partition is
separate), I reinstalled and updated Ubuntu, and so far sound is still working
correctly. I feel silly now. I probably look the part
