Well, after rebooting again, I have some additional info: fsck says /dev/sda5 (system partition) is clean. That's the last message. However, is says nothing about /dev/sda7, which is my home partition. So, the boot process stops between those checks from fsck. (Because the home partition is

I installed kernel 2.6.31 from the mainline ppa. This time, the system did check my home partition (although I had to fsck both my partitions because the time of the superblock was in the future). After fsck, I had to restart and now, the 2.6.31-11 kernel did boot correctly! I don't know what's
