Sorry Steve, I had not seen your post.
It's difficult to provide information about the bug, because the error message

Maybe it will be solved in milestone 10.04.1?
Or I can keep using Karmic, that's also a possibility :)

There is no information to be provided on this bug. You need to file a
*new* bug for *your* issue against the linux package - not against
plymouth, which is almost certainly not the source of the hang.
Maybe it will be solved in milestone 10.04.1?
If you don't file a bug on the linux package,
I have the same problem.
I even can't install Ubuntu, each time when I try it, I get a GLIb-WARNING

There is still the issue of the actual error message, which certainly
shouldn't appear on the user's screen. Is this bug tracked anywhere?

No, it's not tracked anywhere because the warning message itself is not
the real bug, and the mere act of opening a bug report to track that
low-priority bug would make it a magnet for hundreds of unrelated
follow-ups. We need to be addressing the underlying causes of the
message being passed

No, this happens with a fresh install attempt from a Live CD. Also, I
tried it on a different computer of the same model and specs and it also
hung the same way. As well, I tried installing Debian 5.04 and it
installed without any problems and that is what I'm now running on that
