No activity for almost three years, and at that time questions were
being raised about the validity -- if this is still a concern, can
someone provide updated information showing the issue?

You can deavtivate Plymouth to shape at least 20s off your boot-time. I
think this bug might be invalid and it might be Plymouth, where the
problem lies.

My computer (512MB ram might be the cause) is starting much faster without/when
reprofiling ureadahead too.
plymouth sometimes even comes up _AFTER_ kdm.
However, for people around me starting means time between grub and
login screen.
suggestion: Would it be possible to use ureadahead only for
Yes. That worked for me. Found this tip on Ubuntu forums and it looks so
much better (if not any faster, in fact GRUB2 to desktop is now
averaging 1 minute with the occasional long boot due to fscking).
I still would prefer a continuous progress bar. The 5 dots cycle through

Thanks for your time and hard work. However, I think my additions to
this bug are now irrelevant.
I have kept my install updated and purged and reinstalled bootchart so

before KDM auto-login.
The full boot to desktop is faster with ureadahead enabled.
However, I am frustrated that some updates to other packages have
resulted in ureadahead taking an extra 10 seconds or so to do its
business.
