I have solved the hard lock problem I was experiencing above. I am now running feisty 7.04 beta with the low-latency kernel. I assume the same effect for the generic kernel. I patched the hostap_cs module in the kernel source as described above first and rebuilt the kernel. My wireless card worked

To find the pcmcia IDs you can lspcmcia -v (in pcmciautils). Given you have a prism based and not a hermes based card, it should be possible to add the IDs to drivers/net/wireless/hostap/hostap_cs.c. Search for PCMCIA_DEVICE_MANF_CARD. You may want to check if the IDs are already present and are
