I have the same probem with my Dell E6520 that is running a fresh install of
the 13.04 Ubuntu release.
After doing suspend / resume on my computer most of the time I need to reboot
it.
Don't know what's wrong and how I can diagnose the problem.
I tried to see something using the top command.
I think this bug is still valid

I read another place that taking out the battery would help.
And it does!
Today I suspended my 20 GB HP 8540w to RAM. 2.7 GB of this RAM was in
use. After resume everything is working as if the 1.6 GHz 4 core CPU has
been replaced with a 16 MHz 4 core CPU: I can start multiple processes
but they

To add a data point, I recently upgraded my Dell 1555 (xubuntu 12.04)
from 3Gb to 8Gb of RAM and the problem has disappeared. In a month, I
haven't had a single failed resume. I use the computer in exactly the
same way that I always have. Interestingly I now monitor memory usage

Felix Lawrence, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please provide the information following
A few months ago I did a fresh install of 12.04 while it was at alpha 2.
I ran this on the same computer for about a month and never encountered
this problem. I presume it must have been fixed some time between 11.04
and then - feel free to close this bug if that is the appropriate
response.

My impression is that I was able to get rid of the issue after disabling

I think ViktigLemma hit on this, but I installed xscreensaver, and told
my Ubuntu 11.10 to never suspend. Now the computer responds the way I
expect. It's just on me to turn off my monitor when I'm done for the
day..not a big deal. Well worth it to have my computer function
correctly 100% of
It seems the kernel 2.6.39 didn't fix my problem. What seems to have
done it, though, is disabling settings in xscreensaver! Even if
xscreensaver was not configured to enter any sleep or suspend mode, it
must have done so anyway. After I disabled the screensaver I don't have
any problems any more.
Update:
I've upgraded to kernel 2.6.39 and this might have fixed my problem.
Will post back if I encounter problems again.

I installed a fresh copy of oneiric amd64 for my MacBook in hopes of solving
the issue with kernel 3.0. Now resuming from suspend doesnt even work :(

This affects me too, Xubuntu 11.04 AMD64.
Further, the power settings are not respected. I've set it to never do
anything when on AC, but the system falls asleep anyway.
I'm vaguely speculating if this has something to do with dualbooting
windows 7. Maybe the power settings there override the
I don't dual boot.

Same here on an X200 Notebook (Core 2 Duo P8400).
After Suspend to Ram and Resume, the System is extremly slow, applications only
use one core (100% most of the time).
Even without X, its not usable until next reboot.
