There have been a large number of bugfixes with the latest VLC release,
1.0.0~rc2-1ubuntu1. Can you reproduce your issue with this latest
version? You can test this in Ubuntu Karmic, or Ubuntu Jaunty with the
MOTU Media PPA at https://launchpad.net/~motumedia/+archive/ppa . Thanks
in advance.
All good now with VLC 0.9.4 and above. Thx!

In the latest version of VLC, 0.9.4, it appears to be fixed. However, the MKV
file needs to have an index for seeking to actually work, and it seems the
problem is when a file doesn't have an index, vlc crashed and burnt on it
I'm not sure if the bug is fixed or not as i do not have any
I've had this problem since the first time I tried playing back mkv
files with vlc and this was about 3 years ago on windows. Also, playing
back mkv files is not as smooth with vlc as with other players like
mplayer or any windows player I tried, but this is probably another
story. Nothing changed
I seem to have the same problem, although I see a slightly different
assertion failure:
vlc:
/build/buildd/libmatroska-0.8.1/make/linux/../../matroska/KaxCluster.h:131:
uint64 libmatroska::KaxCluster::GlobalTimecodeScale() const: Assertion
`bTimecodeScaleIsSet' failed.
Aborted
Any news here?
still happens with gutsy AMD64 vlc.
seems it's been happening since Edgy, at least.

Im using gutsy, and it doesnt crash, but seeking is still horrible in
VLC
if i use the keyboard shortcuts to go forward (alt+right arrow) if i do
it to fast, it starts going backwards and/or just resets from the
beginning
if i drag the sliderit starts like seeking slowly from the beginning
I encountered this bug while using Fiesty. I recently installed Gutsy,
and now it seems to have gotten worse. I was seeking in an mkv file
using VLC and VLC locked up for a few seconds, and then the system
halted without warning and the computer rebooted.
I am new at testing ubuntu, so I don't
I'm getting this error with a core dump from both the stock VLC for
Feisty and the newest SVN. I've also tried upgrading to 0.8.1 of
libmatroska with no luck.
In my case, the error is fixed if the file is local. When read over a
Samba share, every time I seek, VLC crashes with a segfault. When
Note that in my case remounting the share using NFS instead of Samba
fixed the crash.
My exports line looks like:
/var/storage/movies 10.2.0.0/255.255.255.0(rw,async)
My fstab line on the client looks like:
powerserver:/var/storage/movies /media/nfs/powerserver/movies nfs

I get the same error, with the same versions, but on an AMD64 box; also,
it always segfaults the very first time I try to seek. I'm attaching two
crash files: One is from wxvlc, the other from vlc (same problem).
** Attachment added: wxvlc crash file
This one has a core dump (not sure why only it does, but there it is).

I can confirm this bug. vlc crashes after repeated seeking in an .mkv
(using the same vlc version and the same package).
