feisty - No sound in KDE or GNOME w/ alsa audigy2
So aside from the box that used to be my file server now being
officially dead, I just went ahead and did a clean install of kubuntu
9.10 on the same box, more or less, that I originally reported this on.
From what I can tell, I have working sound, including surround, and
other applications are
I am reviewing a list of bugs and notice the last activity on this was
on 2008-09-23. Granted there are extenuating circumstances listed for
that, but am wondering if this is an applicable bug given that the
reported version was 7.04 and the check for fix version was 8.10a6.

We didn't get into another house until this year. I've started cabling
for the network, but won't be finished for a couple days. Then I have to
get a system working. The box that has this card came back from the
electronics guys, but I haven't fired it up yet since my /home is
mounted from nfs.
Is this symptom reproducible in 8.10 alpha 6 (or newer)? Significant
improvements have been made to alsa-lib in the meanwhile.

Don't know. The system that this was happening on was in a house that
burned down. I haven't gotten into permanent housing, so I haven't even
thought about trying to build another system until it does. I might be
able to do some testing in another month or so.

I was having this problem until I did the following:
1. move the ~/.asoundrc to my ~/tmp folder
2. move the ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf to my ~/tmp folder
3. move the /etc/asound.conf to /etc/asound.conf.bak
4. I had TWO audio groups. I deleted one. (I deleted the wrong one first,

Now this is weird.
If I command 'aplay -D hw:0,1 somefile.wav' it _plays ok_ (I have two active
soundcards, onboard and addon card)
If I say hw:0,0 it errors out: aplay: main:550: audio open error: Device or
resource busy
$ aplay -l

Sound does not work for me either.
It worked in Kubuntu 6.10.
I have updated to Feisty with the new updgrade tool.
I have attached the output of lspci -vv.

Again with no sound after restart. No apparent change, few (if any)
updates having anything to do with sound/alsa. Sound DID work upon
original install from Feisty Herd 4 CD.

After several restarts, but no other changes or modifications, sound has

restricted modules, though perhaps that changed something. Thanks for

Hello
I am experiencing the same problem with Feisty and an Audigy 2 ZS
Platinum Card. I have not attempted modifications to asound.conf .
Below are outputs from various commands.

So I take back what I said earlier. It doesn't work, even with the
modified asound.conf, nor does it work with no asound.conf/.asoundrc.
With no asound.conf, I get basic functionality for one application. In
other words, basic 2-channel sound works, one app at a time on a card
which supports
Is this bug reproducible _without_ an asoundrc (/etc/asound.conf
and/or ~/.asoundrc* )?

Since you can't get 5.1 audio without an asound config of some type, and
since everything on my system is configured to use multi-channel audio,
I suppose the answer would be no. You'd get an entirely different error
regarding plug:surround51.
I think the most annoying thing is that the alsa

OK... I had to make a bunch of changes to my asound.conf, but it works
