I can confirm that sound doesn't work for my Toshiba A135-S4527 in
current Feisty and Gutsy Tribe 4. I will test with an Edgy Live CD and
then attempt the fixes mentioned in the thread so far and report my
findings.

options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack
Works for my laptop in Feisty. I have not tried it in Gutsy tribe 4. I
have noticed that the dial on the front of the laptop does control the
sound, but there isn't any granular control

I also noticed that I have a switch for headphones in the volume
control. When I turn on the switch, sound is heard from the laptop
speakers and the headphones. When it is unchecked, it only sounds from
the laptop speakers. I imagine this is the headphone bug I've read about

When you plug in headphones, does the sound stop playing from the laptop
speakers? If so, I'd like to compare our fixes to see if I missed

so I cant delete it and try

the problem is a race condition with the init script. now that init
scripts are run in parallel, a kludge was added to /etc/init.d/alsa-
utils which simply waits until the file system is available. some other
condition must also need to be satisfied. this is confirmed by the fact
that the loss

driver is properly loaded. then, you can tweak the mixer settings to
