error_log, the problem is that the output on the printer is not
correct.For the PSC-1210 it seems to be a driver bug in the upstream
code of HPLIP. So please report a bug on

The problem with your Brother printer seems also to be a driver problem.
Please report it to Brother (on their web site for the Linux printer
drivers, where you downloaded the driver).

Hi Till. I tried another PC again, but this time with the HP. Now the print was
scaled correctly, although the quality was not as good as in Windows with
photoret mode. Then I tried a print to Brother using the different PC on USB
and it failed. Then I tried wifi print to Brother same settings

For the HP you should still report the bug to HP. You actually do not
reach the full output quality of the printer. And do not think your
printer is too old. There are newer models which print with the same
protocol and they probably do not reach maximum quality, too.

Hi Till. I then did the HP PSC-1210 using CUPS in both Linux Mint and
Linux Pinguy. It was worse than the Brother by far see attached pic. I
could only print colour when dialog set as A4 and normal colour. If set
as photo paper and photo I got the picture stretched and grayscale as
the lower
PSC1210 in error_log

Running the command line shown above simply in a terminal window,
applied to an arbitrary PostScript file shows that the settings get
actually embedded. Seems that perhaps the Brother driver ignores them.

Thanks so much Till. I will follow up as soon as possible; I have a dialog with
Brother, but before reporting to them, will do the tests with HP PSC 1210 as
well. I suspect you are right on with the driver anomaly, as Brother for this
model have very poor firmware, which is possibly reflected

Option 2 ~/.cups/lpoptions I renamed and made no difference.
there is no file in /etc/cups/lpoptions and permissions for the cups folder

The USB part was not needed. Important are the parts about CUPS
error_log and Capturing print job data and these for jobs where you
use the normal quality settings in the CP and the photo settings in
the application, as I described in comment #3 of this bug.

There must be a line only containing
LogLevel debug
and no other line starting with LogLevel in your /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.

I'd done restart cups and set debug within the web admin panel.
Only after a reboot of PC would the logging start. Attached is log of
print with CP as you defined, and User dialog for photo.
This print failed on the Printer - continual data but no print, I had to
stop/exit but the spool/PC side
Check also whether you have a file ~/.cups/lpoptions. Some programs save
personal printer settings in it and they get used by all programs. These
settings override the settings of the Control Panel. Open the file with
an editor and remove unwished settings or remove the file altogether.
