Tested with daily-live 2007-04-15 21:13 feisty-desktop-i386.iso. Seems
good so far. Booted, installed and runs without a problem.

All the logs I posted were generated with the 2.6.18-grml kernel.
lsmod from 2.6.18-grml attached.
I'll try the latest daily built image ASAP.

using your 2.6.18-grml kernel?

I can confirme that bug on my new desktop with MSI motherboard, the
problem is certainly the Jmicron chipset. Desactivate it, permit a clean
boot, with my previous installation of Feisty, but installation from a
cdrom of Herd5 on that port become then impossible.
When Jmicron activated, the
initramdisk workaround in Bug #84964, solve the problem.

Can you also boot the live cd, and at the (initramfs) prompt type:

I booted feisty herd 5 without 'quiet' and 'splash' options, while doing
'shift + up' I didn't come across anthing with 'JMicron, modprobe or
strlen'. But I couldn't scroll back in the whole output, I think the
buffer or something was to small, so I could only scroll trough the last
part of the

Can you boot the feisty herd 4/5 livecd with removing 'quiet' and
'splash' options please? When you get the prompt, can you press
Shift+PageUp a few times and see if you see 'modprobe' crashing with
