I have changed to new hardware meanwhile. Since I don't see any
WONTFIX status, I'm changing the bug status to Invalid.
@ schwarzer adler: I hope this is okay for you. Otherwise, please just
change the status back.

G H, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

At my PC it is similar.

I'm sorry, I couldn't find a /etc/default/grub file.
Anyway, the grub menu entries for recovery mode don't contain these
options. Booting in recovery mode fails, too. Also, I couldn't find any
messages about the encryption password. (That might be due to them

Can you try booting with the boot messages enabled? You can do this by
performing the following:
Edit the /etc/default/grub file.
Replace this line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=
Then run sudo update-grub and reboot.
During the boot, can you watch

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to

the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've

I guess this bot saw the 2.6.31 Kernel from the description. However,
this problems affects kernel 3.0.0-12.20 (which is the newest one
available on the package system). Changing it back to confirmed.

Using the 2.6.31 kernel with the Ubuntu 11.10 userspace, you get the splash
screen with no problems?
Yes, I get the splash screen. The only thing weird about it, is that it says
Ubuntu 11.04 on it (however, when shutting down, the same screen says Ubuntu

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.
However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is
