I have the same (or it seems like the same) issue with a Lenovo ThinkPad X220. Most of the time it will wake, but maybe one our of five times it will not. As a workaround, sometimes I can do Ctrl-Alt-F1, then log-in to the terminal and enter the sudo shutdown -h now command to shut it down. This
