I think I discovered what the problem is--a problem with the video
driver the installation CD chose for my card caused X to hang when
trying to show the login screen. The installer detected the card
properly, but used the following settings:

Tried reverting wine to edgy and changing graphics driver in xorg from
via to vesa. Screen works, wine works, but performance is totally
unacceptable.
Only acceptable workaround until compatibility issues are resolved is to
use dapper package.

Same problem here. G400 card, get refresh rate out of range error after

I get the same thing, however I've noticed it crashes only when I
connect to my home IMAP 4 server (courier-imap), if I connect to work
exchange server its fine as well as another provider I have who's using
dovecot, I believe.

Sorry, but edgy is released - it's well past time for sync requests. If

1- after restart, when the computer stops booting, and there is nothing but a
black screen with blinking white dash, press and hold together CTRL + ALT + F1
(to get to the console).

attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf to this report as

Note: I added xorg-ati but did not remove kernel (while assigning bugs)
