I had this bar when I upgraded to Dapper, where i somehow got it to go
away. I got this bar again when I upgraded to Edgy and I made it go away
by configuring my /etc/X11/xorg.conf correctly according to mouse and
graphic card.

In order to work for me I had to change the symlink in /dev/disk/by-uuid by
hand before the first hibernate.

My brother got the same problem after upgrading from Dapper to Edgy.
There was no obvious reason, X just failed. Only closer analysis showed
what was going on, the link was pointing to /bin/true.
I assume that this may happened because he used apt-get and aptitude in
multiple runs, so some
