I don't think getting a backport in dapper is possible, but yes, you can

installed/removed. You can safely remove it for the purposes of testing
whether this works. It won't remove the entire ubuntu desktop as such.

It has not become confusing because there are 32bit and 64bit reports,
nor because there are AGP and PCI-E users, and there is no need to split
the reports. Each time both groups experience the same problems.
It has become a little confusing because of people with x600 and x700
cards, who really
this has nothing to do with NFS (as in Network File System). Avahi is
probably what you want, and feisty will have it enabled on default.

This error message just started for me yesterday, and as far as I'm aware I
only did two things:
1) I tried installing enlightenment -- but because it didn't work properly I
completely uninstalled it using Synaptic Package Manager.
2) in the same session I changed the theme of Gnome

Same symptom. I have dual monitor and switch to that application
maximized on second screen by clicking on scroll bar. Hangs for a second
and then closes.

The throbber is only displayed while you're in the initramfs, because we
can't do good time estimation there. Getting out of this shouldn't take
very long; if it does, then that's the real problem ...

Well it does. Right until the computer comes up. I never get a bar that
denotes progress. I can understand the need to have a waiting signal
till that's calculated but I just have a throbber until I start to see
the Desktop

I have installed and uninstalled several multimedia software packages trying to
get all the major news media streams to work. Finally, I am down to Mplayer,
