Those errors were from rmmod modprobing the modules. It seems not all
computer run the same ones to get it going though. Mine didn't have
sdhci running, but tifm_sd was. Yours had sdhci and not tifm_sd by
those errors. Too bad there's no rmmod *sd* and modprobe *sd*
options, cuz ya know,
A workaround for the .DS/.DE/.DS/.DE example above where `bar' is lower
is to add a `.sp -0.5v' after the first .DE when using the more recent,
broken, groff.

I just wanted to thank you for being so articulate about the problem,
where others have been skimpier on the details. I too have this problem
and hope to see it's root-cause fixed. I love operating in beryl and
can't stand that black boxes hamper life at times.

Just a quick update: I did get the black box issue to stop in KDE with
the tip you gave. I started application after application and no black
boxes appeared. Performance of beryl is notably suckier, but it's a
small price to pay to rid myself of the blacked-out applications of
death.

I think it isn't solved. I have a small panel with only notification
area, gpilotd and volume control. Right mouse on the beryl-manager
popups a context menu, and the panel won't hide anymore.
A click on the panel makes it not auto-hiding anymore...

Yes feisty final version. I am also using ndiswrapper for broadcom 4306
chipset. This problem is very annoying because I cannot fix it through
/etc/network/interfaces as I need to automount network folders on startup.

Update: After running the patched thinkpad-keys for 24 hours, CPU time
is a meagre 1 sec, just a tad better than the 25 minutes it used to
spend a day...
This just seemed to good to be true. So, to verify the correctness of
the patch, here's some background:
