I apparently have the same problem: I insert an audio CD and a writeable
CD. Then I choose the Copy Disc entry from the audio CD contextual menu.
The process of copying and writing completes without signalling any
errors, but the resulting CD cannot be read either by Ubuntu or by my
DVD reader,

When I use sound juicer for the first time, its default target directory
is /media, which is obviously not writeable by a normal user.
Unfortunately, it took me quite a long time to discover this, because
the error I got at the beginning of

My problem is very similar to yours when you have kded off. The only
differences are that I have kded running, and media:/ shows all of my
drives, except any flash drives I have plugged in. However, like you, I

That's not a bug. Once you start swat, it bind to a port and listens, it
doesn't quit. You should start it with 'swat '. And command line is operative
- ctrl+c kills swat and brings you back command line. This is normal behavior.

Strangely, I have not experienced the runaway kde recently, but I have
found that at some point in the last few weeks automount completely
stopped working. Are you saying that these two problems might be
related?

Upgraded to this version of Firefox using Ubuntu's automated upgrade
feature. After install and reboot, images on web sites no longer
displayed.

If the disk checking behavior cannot be changed (forcing you to wait 10
minutes or more during boot), then the default should be off. No force
disk checking every Xth time you boot.
There are times when you need to use your computer now. For example a
presentation or a class. In fact that is
upgraded the above xorg packages today to latest gutsy versions and X is still
working after restart. So I guess the bug can be closed.
Strange it worked for everybody else, though...

I also would like to be able to either cancel/skip the disk check on
boot, or the best option would be to ask users if the disk check can be
performed on shutdown, although I know that would require significant
changes. Giving users a yes/no choice before performing the disk check
is an easy fix,
