Not the original reporter, but I can confirm that this still affects me
on latest gutsy (upgraded from feisty, no fresh install).
As a temporary workaround, I found that I can manually lock the screen
and still hibernate through the Stand-by key on my keyboard.

I don't know why the program crashed. It was a new installation on a
Dell M70 notebook (2GB RAM, 256MB Video). Upon reboot the application

ok there are some packages in synaptic that get installed with the
system that I cannot remove like gaim for instance without it also
removing the package ubuntu-desktop, now I understand this is a meta
package and is safe to remove, however it is necassary for a smooth dist
I am sorry, but I don't get it.
My fix is quite simple, just change a few lines in a file here and
there. Any package maintainer could do it in 1/5 the time I spent to

I found that I can run movies with totem like this:

Any solution to this yet ? I experienced the same continuous rebooting events
