To create a proper test case, people with a sound file exposing the problem

Gnome panel volume control alternates mute/% volume while being slid to
adjust volume. If one stops while it says mute, the mute icon shows in
the panel and there is a check next to the mute option when left-
clicked. However, the volume is not muted. Left-clicking the

I still think that yelp should work with this document.
Anyway, I've pushed the simple fix to the repository at
https://docteam.ubuntu.com/repos/branches/gutsy and there is a package
there waiting to be uploaded (ubuntu-main-sponsors subscribed).
My build is still going and I'm late for work so
fuse-utils (the userspace part which is needed by all fuse applications)
sets up that group. do you use any package with fuse applications that
dont depend on fuse-utils ?

This is what it says after compiz --replace:
