I seemed to have this problem too: after only a few months, my hard
drive's load_cycle_count was up to 424241, which is about 2/3 of the
maximum (from what other people said in comments).

I can confirm that reinstalling libc6_2.6.1-1ubuntu10_amd64.deb fixed
the corrupted libc6 files but I'm not convinced that the corruption is
caused by libc6 because corruption of other packages have occurred as
well. At first I thought the corruption was caused by incompatible
hardware but I

All I can say is it's happened when I plug 3 usb harddrive with ntfs, I mounted
its with ntfs-3g.
And when I umount its, the problem happen. I have not fix the problem already
so my partition still linked to my partition so if you need info on my system
just ask.

However, at this point I cannot find a solution for Feisty (no IcedTea
stack). I am still discussing this with other developers, so hang on
tight. In the mean time, you can actually install the hardy or gutsy
fixed debs (as soon as the stupid build daemons
