Yet another machine that ran fine in Feisty, but which is having serious
problems in Gutsy. This is supposed to be an upgrade? Machine just
crashes to a white screen of death, and only solution appears to be to
pull the plug and reboot. It seems to be instantly fatal and
I've just measured my drive reading time and found out that it's
3.5-4.9MB/s (measured in Midnight Commander by copying a not yet cached
file to /dev/null). Then I plugged a USB drive (an HDD box) and tried
checking, it's 15-20MB/s, this isn't funny! I have ASUS F3Jp laptop (I
have no settings in

Look in /boot/grub/menu.lstput it before ro in the linux

OR, do it manually from the grub menu the first time to see if it fixes the

Oddly, my tests now seem to indicate the problem is Ubuntu, not
Edubuntu. I was able to install Kubuntu and Edubuntu together, both on
single partions (only a separate /tmp partition). Oooh. /tmp shows
some buffered areas like Tracker-xeno. I wonder if that is related.
I'll try that next.

practices when installing web servers, it seems to be that the system is

I have a 3-screen workstation setup, with screens :0.0, :0.1, and :0.2.
gnome-screensaver fails to detect activity on screens :0.1 and :0.2,
although activity on :0.0 is properly noticed. Activity is defined
here as keyboard and mouse

Clement, it IS a bug:
1. You select Normal.
2. You then select Custom: nothing happens, ok.
3. Close and re-open the tool: it's in the Normal profile, ok.
4. Close the tool and run CCSM... I change anything (say, for example, I
activate the color filter).
5. Open the tool... and it is in Normal,
This is causing me troubles (in Hardy) with libtool while compiling some
Gnome apps like rhythmbox.
