Once the 3d driver has been set and enabled correctly, the screen flickers with
any application that uses graphics.
For example, running totem-xine from the terminal results in this kind of error:

I have experienced same problem on Ubuntu7.10 64 bit O/S.
Adding msttcorefonts did not help.
Uninstalling thunderbird completely and re-installing including place-holder
packages mozilla-thunderbird and mozilla-enigmail have apparently solved the
problem.
