The proposed fixes of avahi (allowing avahi to be used by cups without segfault — while the current fix consists in disabling avahi in cups by starting it later i.e. reverting the fix of bug 173470) can be tested from my PPA (packages version 0.6.20-2ubuntu3.3~ppa1) : deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/hugues-fournier/ubuntu gutsy main ( https://launchpad.net/~hugues-fournier/+archive ) Anyone who had triggered the fixed bug on one of one's box is helpful as this segfault is not easily reproduceable (being timing/load - dependent) Of course, beware (for your own sake ;) ) not any other packages than avahi ones from my PPA on your gutsy system (as I presume you are not disposed towards getting experimental nspr/nss for your Firefox for example) -- [Gutsy SRU request] CUPS fails to start on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183652 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
I've just done a clean install of hardy alpha3 (+ updates) and the problem definitely persists. In its current state, my laptop has been almost unusable for important work under ubuntu for far too long, and i've about had it. It even locked up the first time I tried to post here. Anyway, if it isn't resolved by the time hardy is released, I'm afraid I'll have to abandon ubuntu. While it is nice to have the new splashy 3d features, when systems crash with the severity, frequency, and duration before a solution we have here, I feel that things should be rolled back to the last know stable version. Yes, it may require other packages to be downgraded, but IT WILL WORK. The other solution is to add a notice during installation Sorry, Ubuntu does not work with your hardware. Please install Windows or try another distribution. (Sorry for the rant -- not that helpful I know, but as I said, I've basically had it. I do (did) like ubuntu and have been basically linux-only for a decade and I hate having to think maybe I should boot up Windows to get some work done since at least it won't crash :) ) Good luck tracking this issue down! -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 186638] [NEW] Disk partitioning takes too long to start
Public bug reported: While installing ubuntu (7.10) after booting from the live cd, the installer scans existing partitions in order to find free space. However, on a machine with several/large partitions, this scanning takes a lot of time (several minutes). After scanning, the user is asked whether to resize existing partitions or to manually specify the partitions. It would be better if the ntfsresize scans are done if and only if the user asks to resize existing partitions. Also, if I select some option and decide to go back, the scans of ntfs partitions are repeated. Caching the results of the earlier scan should eliminate the need for this repetition. Also, when choosing to manually specify the partitions, the installer insists on scanning disks after every operation. [Bug 184393] Re: [Hardy alpha 3] System suspends but dont resume
Hi espi3d, Thank you for your report and helping to make Ubuntu better. Hardy Alpha 4 should be out within the next few days. It would be great if you could test with the Alpha4 LiveCD and verify the issue still exists. If so, per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment. * uname -a uname-a.log * cat /proc/version_signature version.log * dmesg dmesg.log * sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log Also, the following wiki may help: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend . [Bug 137051] Re: Partition UUID changes after upgrade, cannot mount partitions
Hi David, It's noteworthy that in your menu.lst, the kopt and kopt_2_6 options list two different UUIDs. The kopt_2_6 option is the one that's been automatically mapped to the kernel boot options, which is what's expected; what isn't clear is why this is different from the kopt value, which is presumably the real UUID of your device, and which also appears in your fstab. Could you confirm the current UUID of your root filesystem? On Saturday, I installed 7.10 on a new machine, and applied all available updates. After all updates were installed and I rebooted, I proceeded to create launchers on the desktop and the same thing happened again. On my current installation of 7.10, it still happens. In addition, I also have an 8.04 installation with all updates and it too has the same problem. On Jan 28, 2008 4:56 PM, Data [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Status says fix released. Re: [Bug 145112] Re: Random NVidia Proprietary Driver Lock-Ups with dual core + 7300
2008/1/25, Andrew [EMAIL PROTECTED]: The new version has been stable for me. What I don't understand is why there can only be 1 version in the repositories. There are multiple kernels, 2 apache versions, 3 python versions, 2 tomcat versions, etc. Why can't there be several nvidia packages and have a virtual package that points to the latest, like the kernel? That was if there is a regression for some people they can forbid that version using apt. Seconded. The drivers are currently part of linux-restricted-modules, so everyone gets both the new and legacy versions of the modules. I'd really appreciate a Ubuntu maintainer's viewpoint on having l-r-m depend on a separate nvidia-driver pseudo-package. This would allow distinct versions of both the nvidia-new nvidia-legacy packages, who would provide the pseudo package and conflict with each other. I do understand that this would indeed increase the maintainer's work, and the associated complexity of maintaining several versions and dependencies. Nonetheless, on a 1-year old dual-core laptop, I don't care about the legacy driver. On the 2 year single core, I don't need the 169.xx driver or the legacy one, and on the old PIII, I need the legacy driver, and can do without the space overhead of the other modules included in l-r-m. [Bug 186251] Re: Flash framerate is slower than the older version of Flash
Sorry to be a nuisance, but Adobe forbids distribution of the flash plugin (that is why the Ubuntu package merely fetches the installer from Adobe and sets up nspluginwrapper). The file attachment should be removed. No. The Adobe free Player distribution agreement does not allow you to distribute the Players from your website. You must direct visitors to the Adobe Web Players area of our Downloads site. To easily link to our website, we provide Adobe Web Player buttons that you can display on your site. Extract the file, navigate to /fp9_archive/9r48/ and then extract install_flash_player_9r48_linux.tar.gz. [Bug 186831] [NEW] Documentation error in postgresql-common

[Bug 186623] Re: Cannot set lock option in menu.lst without being overriden by update-grub
Thanks for confirming and also pointing out that the lock option won't be silently overridden by upgrades anymore. At this point it seems the bug title is no longer relevant. Rather it could be Cannot set lock option without messy kernel upgrade procedure. To clarify, I am making the case for a new option called lockdefault which will do for the default kernel what the other locks for other kernels. My thoughts are that if you are going through all the trouble of looking out for the lock option, and then bailing out of a grub update because you don't want to override it, you might as well just support the lock option in the automagic default options so that kernel upgrades aren't problematic. Another point is that the lock option is a grub _feature_ which people do use on their default kernel, regardless of breakage and inconveniences relating to debian's update-grub. It is debatable whether such people are misguided, but they will no doubt continue to use the lock option in this way under the impression that their system is more secure that way. I accept that people who do this are not going to have unattended upgrades. However, I did not suggest that the distro is shipped with the lock option enabled by default and thereby break the unattended upgrades. Rather, this is a feature for those who do edit the menu.lst by hand. -- Cannot set lock option in menu.lst without being overriden by update-grub https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
