Apparently there was a bug where the linux sound "system" would put the
card in a very BAD state... I could not get my sound back even by
reinstalling.
The fix, believe it or not, was to boot into Windows which reset the
sound card on boot -- then sound worked fine.

I have recently upgraded to hardy, using system-config-printer
0.7.81+svn1976 and I can confirm, when I get asked for a password it
does not get accepted. Using gksudo works.

I enabled apport, and got a crash report for Totem! I think this is a
separate bug in Totem not exiting gracefully when gnome-panel crashes.
I removed Totem from my panel, then tried to reproduce the bug. gnome-
panel crashed as expected, but apport did NOT create a new crash report.
So I'm back
I've had the same problem trying to use the graphical installer with my
GeForce 8800GT video card. I had the same problem with 7.10 and had to
use the text-based installer. I'm disappointed that Ubuntu doesn't seem
to recognize this popular card. I'd be happy to provide information

The last comment and the attachement were meant to clarify another bug
(195174). I confused them. However, that bug is already resolved.
For this bug here i found out while trying to reproduce it, that it was my
fault by not correctly selecting the area to be filtered.

It's not only there, same on /latest_ideas/ which is also accessible as

Sound card SB Live 5.1 never worked properly with any Linux distribution.
I've seen this problem reported in various ways but was never resolved.
To put it simply SB Live 5.1 doesn't work.
