[Bug 234532] [NEW] gvfs-sftp: openoffice can't open or save files

2008-05-24 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Using a fileserver exporting directories with ssh and OpenOffice stopped
working after upgrade to 8.04 in the clients.

[Bug 222279] Re: Missing icon on default Xubuntu 8.04 Install

2008-05-24 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
As Vincent said, this is a configuration issue, so nothing related to packaging.
Moreover, x-d-s shouldn't deal with firefox icon symlink: it's firefox package
job, you'll possibly break upgrades from previous releases (since firefox.png
was shipped by previous firefox versions), and it'll be a pain to take care of
both firefox-2 and firefox-3.0 (maybe using alternatives, but that's too much
work).

I guess it's rather a Won't Fix.

 tcl8.5 (8.5.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Quoted CFLAGS in debian/rules when passing to the shell, not when
assigning to a make variable; otherwise the quotes end up as part of

[Bug 183746] Re: [Hardy] doesn't recognize native resolution on Vaio PCG-SRX51P/B (i815m)

2008-05-24 Thread unggnu
Could you please recheck it with the current upstream -intel driver. If it
doesn't work with it we can report the issue upstream.
The easiest way is to use the Debian sid driver in Hardy I guess.
Change the Driver line to from i810 to intel in xorg.conf without a restart.
You have to remove the old i810 driver because the new one doesn't work
parallel.
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-i810 xserver-xorg-video-all
Download the current driver from
http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.3.1-1_i386.deb
 and install it.
After that restart X and check if your problem is gone. If you have made
changes to your xorg.conf generate a new one please (sudo dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg) or just remove it to be sure.

If you want to reset everything do the follow commands.
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all

Afterwards you will have the standard hardy driver again.

[Bug 17599] Re: ksoftirqd/0 takes all the CPU power

2008-05-24 Thread Tuomo Vainikainen
Hello,

I have IBM R40 with Ubuntu 8.04 2.6.24-16-generic and my daughter is
very unhappy when this happens with Firefox which seems to launch
process. Our WLAN changed from D-Link to Buffalo and reluctant to change
back, I logically removed apache and mysql server (obviously she doesn't
need them). Now this computer has worked fine for an hour... If someone
is interested I can provide further information.

[Bug 234537] [NEW] gnome-keyring and gvfs doesn't play well with openoffice

2008-05-24 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

Using a fileserver exporting directories with ssh and OpenOffice stopped
working after upgrade to 8.04 in the clients.
Clients mounting the share with the new gvfs-sftp-system. Instead of opening or
saveing files OpenOffice starts a password dialog.

Using the dot-mount in home-directory or copying files thru nautilus to
local directories are a work-a-round.

[Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2008-05-24 Thread Ashley Yakeley
Emblems should be instantly recognisable, so they should vary in both
colour and shape. Since they are all small adornments to other icons,
there's no need for them to have any visual commonality. Their
emblemness is identified by their context as adornments.

I would be perfectly happy with a set of ordinary Tango icons for
emblems. More could be added following the same Tango guidelines.

[Bug 223081] Re: Hardy kernel causes overheating

2008-05-24 Thread Janne Moren
It looks rather like some deadlock or starvation issue. The UI and all
userland applications freeze, but events like screen dimming still
happen on schedule as I mentioned above. While the screen (jerkily,
slowly) dims, I can actually move the mouse and do stuff; once the
screen is dimmed it all freezes solid again. Events like turning off the
screen when I close the lid, and turning it on when I open it still
happen as well.

Occasionally the machine will actually recover if I wait long enough.
Usually, however, it doesn't - or it perhaps would if I waited
arbitrarily long, but I do have work I want to do.

Anything I can do to help find the cause more precisely?

[Bug 234474] Re: always in english, even after changing locale

2008-05-24 Thread Florent
I've tested the bug on Gutsy first.
Yesterday I installed Hardy and experienced same problem.

First I looked around on forums, and I saw that french users have similar
localization problem with SLiM and derived works (Fluxbuntu).
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=161315
http://community.fluxbuntu.org/index.php?topic=418.msg1939#msg1939

And I've found bugs #161802 and #165257 which are very similar.

According to the analysis above, where GDM script is compared with SLiM, the
bug should be fixed on the login manager side.
IMHO the other bugs should be marked duplicate of the bug in SLiM.

[Bug 19775] Re: Missing hostname in /etc/hosts causes sudo to fail

2008-05-24 Thread Matthew Hawkins
I got this with a fresh install of 8.04 too, and I've had to help a few
people on IRC who have been bitten by it. My solution was as follows:

boot into recovery console (the only way to get root now since sudo is broken)
edit /etc/hosts and add the shortname - I added it to both the 127.0.0.1 and
the 127.0.1.1 lines. At this stage I don't do IPv6 so don't know about that one
chmod 0444 /etc/hosts (this is necessary because shortly after rebooting some
idiot process will erase the fix unless this file is read-only)

[Bug 234543] Re: /etc/hosts: hostname alias of loopback

2008-05-24 Thread Daniel
** Description changed:

There is a bug in /etc/hosts. Your hostname is NO alias of 127.0.0.1.
Only localhost is an alias for the loopback. When an application want
to know your ip adresss, it will get 127.0.0.1. But this is not your ip
  adress in your local network!

  This is not right:
  127.0.0.1 localhost HOSTNAME
  127.0.1.1 HOSTNAME

- I'd deleted HOSTNAME to get my application work.
+ I'd deleted HOSTNAME to get my application work. It does already work if
+ you delete this two lines or all lines.

[Bug 226558] Re: Not booting after upgrade to Hardy Heron

2008-05-24 Thread parislanuit
Hi Saivann
After a few tries, you assumptions were right. I can boot on pata 2ndary
channel but not on the 1st channel. Strange cauz my plextor cdrw drive.
Althought Win works on both channels, i guess my MB ide controllers seem to
have a transfer data rate problem.
Mb is a low cost asrock model and maybe that's the issue.
Works better with a sata 80go Maxtor HD, although transfer data rate still very
low compared to the 1.5GB bandwith capacity. I only get less than half thin
figure under sisoft sandra test.

On the pata channels i only get the equivalent of a udma33 with a recent
udma100 disk.

Still ubuntu seems more more toutchy on these issues than win or even
than the 7.10 version.

I'll do some more testing with a normal 3.5 disk rather than my 2.5 on
pata channels to see if the issue is on the ide 3.5to2.5 cable let u
know

installing the package libflashsupport fixes your problem but makes firefox

sound is blocked by the crashes, so this is correctly a dupe.

[Bug 234552] [NEW] nm-applet causing complete lockups 100% sure

Public bug reported:

I have just reinstalled hardy heron 8.04 LTS. and i am experienceing the
same lockups. the screen completely freezes no signal from mouse,
keyboard lights ect. Also sound plays a short loop over and over for a
few seconds. last installation of hardy i uninstalled network manager

re-installed. This time however i left network manager at 0.6.6 until
it locked up a few times again.. so i tried something new and installed
the 0.7 version of nm they work great apart from the frequent crashes
when downloading and sometimes randomly. I am sure this bug is due to
the network manager. i never had this problem in gutsy with the 0.6.5

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-05-24 Thread AC
I am also affected by this bug on Ubuntu 8.04 x86 (32-bit). My external
(USB) rtl8187-based wireless frequently drops the connection (WPA) and
Network Manager fails to indicate this (but the Sent/Recieved count
doesn't increase) or goes to connected, but 0% connection, or goes to
100% connection but little orange triangle warning icon.

The way to fix it involves randomly (no pattern to what will work) doing
the following:

- Removing the USB stick and reconnecting
- Unloading and reloading the rtl8187 kernel module
- Unticking and ticking the connection in Network Manager forcing a
reconfiguration
- Restarting the computer

My connection works perfectly in a Vista installation on the same
machine.
