[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk
So, just to summarize, we are stuck to ubuntu 7.10? I would like to upgrade to 8.04 for many reasons, but to risk to find myself with the same problem as before is unacceptable. Do you guys think situation will improve by the time of 8.10 ? Do you also find the following procedure suitable: 1) unplug 1 drive from RAID 1 2) update ubuntu from 7.10 to 8.04 with only one drive in the array 3) verify that everything works; if yes... 4) add the drive as spare and reassemble 5) No, upgrade is not good; then... 6) plug back the old drive and start the machine with that and reassemble the other as spare... [Bug 237460] Re: Root on iscsi is not supported
Just to fill in a bit more info: 1. The hw-detect problem should be straightforward enough, so I won't go into much depth about that. 2. The problems involing open-iscsi are many-fold: 2.a. Networking is not configured in initramfs (yet the network is clearly up since we have loaded the initramfs somehow). 2.a.I Debian fixes this by leeching off of nfsroot's networking code. This is rather crappy, and doesn't have installer support (but needs it). 2.a.II The open-iscsi package has code (but doesn't ship the binary, IIRC) to extract the networking info from the PXE firmware (or whereever it resides. I'm not entirely sure). IIRC, the open-iscsi web page explains how to use this. 2.b. Then the network is up, we should be able to mount the root filesystem by doing the usual iscsi stuff to get access to the block devices. This might require some udev support in the initramfs, but I actually don't think so (UUID based mounting ftw!)) 2.c. When the root filesystem is mounted, and hence the network is up, we should be careful as to not nuke it, when we actually finish booting, but we should still let ifupdown configure the network properly (to get bonding running and such). There's probably more, but that should be enough to get started working on it. -- Root on iscsi is not supported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-iscsi in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 51124] Re: Glitch renaming directory
If you follow the description, you'll see the bug it's still here in Ubuntu 8.04 and Nautilus 2.22.3: 1) Create a directory named A 2) Right click on the directory in Nautilus, select Rename and change the name to B, WITHOUT giving enter or clicking elsewhere 3) Now, with the name still editable, double click the directory to open it 4) The address bar in nautilus will show that the directory is still named A BUT: 5) If you do a ls command, instead you'll see the directory is now named B 6) If you click the back button in nautilus you'll see the directory as B This show that at a given time, Nautilus is showing incorrect information and so I call it a bug. -- Glitch renaming directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/51124 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 243152] [NEW] Doesn't work well with the pulseaudio alsa plugin
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc Taken from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=472811: VLC only plays without audio when using the pulse alsa plugin. When i looked into this it seems that VLC requests quite a big buffer. Which is ofcourse fine. Pulseaudio allows such a big buffer and will start playing when the requested buffer is nearly full. What this means is that untill the buffer is full the reported latency will obviously increase. Unfortunately it seems that the latency of a full buffer is so big that VLC thinks something is wrong and starts playing without audio. Changing the buffer size of 256 periods to 16 periods seems to fix this issue. Thank you for your contribution to Ubuntu. [Bug 243003] Re: Hardy cannot connect wirelessly to DLINK DSL-G604T
First you have to scan for the accesspoint with: iwlist scan Then you have to set the data, this may differ. If you use for example a 128-Bit WEP with a string password you have to type: sudo ifconfig wlan0 essid [Name of the Connection] ap [MAC Address of the Access point] key s:[Key] And then to get an IP Address: sudo dhclient wlan0 maybe you have to use another device name then wlan0, like ath0 or something like that Before you can connect like that you have to kill the Network Manger, because else it will overwrite your connection data: sudo killall NetworkManager for more information on ifconfig and iwlist read the manpages: just type man ifconfig or man iwlist in the console. -- Hardy cannot connect wirelessly to DLINK DSL-G604T https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/243003 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 190887] Re: virt-manager: mouse malfunction
I have a probably related problem. Namely, when running vinagre to connect to a kvm virtual machine, running Windows, the mouse seems to believe that the screen border is not where it should be. The consequence is that I sometimes cannot reach the Start button, because the mouse cursor cannot go below a certain row, or certain icons cannot be clicked. This problem seems to be solved by shaking quickly the mouse, that is, moving it very fast. [Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
Is fully disabling Power Manager really needed? Wouldn't it cause some problems related with overheat or short battery lifetime? A low value means aggressive power management and a high value means better performance. Possible settings range from values 1 through 127 (which permit spin-down), and values 128 through 254 (which do not permit spin-down). The highest degree of power management is attained with a setting of 1, and the highest I/O performance with a setting of 254. A value of 255 tells hdparm to disable Advanced Power Management altogether on the drive (not all drives support disabling it, but most do). Power save should still being enabled.
