I came across an issue with this and discovered that, the way firefox decides whether what you are typing is a search term or a URL is by querying the DNS server (usually your ISP). If the DNS does not return a result, Firefox assumes its a search and queries Google (or whatever search engine you specify in about: config keyword.url) I came came across this because I tried typing ubuntu and Firefox tried to load it as a URL. -- Can't use OpenDNS and retain Awesome Bar functionality https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 277865] Re: usb-creator crashed with AttributeError in install_bootloader()
Michael, I'm pretty shaky with this myself, but I'll share what I've gleaned so far: The tool you will need (on Ubuntu) is GParted. It's part of the default LiveCD, but seems not to be present on a standard desktop install -- if you don't have it you'll have to sudo apt-get install gparted in a terminal shell or use Synaptic to get the package. Once you run GParted, you'll probably be first shown the partitions on one of your hard disks. Use the Device menu over to the right of the window to select your USB drive instead. You now have two options: Easiest is to choose the Create Partition Table option from the Device menu (on the GParted pulldown menus), and follow the prompts. This will remove any and all data and create your new table. Alternatively: On the main display, select the existing USB drive partition (if there is one, which is likely -- probably formatted as FAT32). Then, making sure the correct partition is now highlighted, press the Delete option button on GParted's main toolbar. Now (the drive table will be marked as Unallocated) you can press the New toolbar button and create your new partition table. Finally, press the Apply button to effect these changes. best of luck, Andre. I can confirm that this bug is still in effect in Intrepid with the latest updates as of this morning (Nov 7th). I'm running a 7600GT with the proprietary drivers. The bug happens when I have Visual Effects set to Normal and when I use my mouse to hover over the Min/Max/Close/leftside icons in the window titlebar. The bug ONLY occurs if the window is currently in focus, and ONLY occurs with the mouse cursor over the titlebar buttons. If it is not in focus, then no amount of hovering will create artifacts. If I mouse over the buttons and get the artifacts, then I can usually get back to normal by hovering again, and then moving the cursor away from the titlebar. ** Attachment added: screen1.jpg http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19458454/screen1.jpg -- Desktop effects causes titlebar anomaly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 279798] Re: [intrepid] cannot suspend with module rtl8187 loaded
Hello hyperair, 11_rtl8187_workaround does not work for me. After resume, the network is disabled. I need right-click on network applet and enable network. [Bug 55739] Re: No more mouse events after using rdesktop
OK, question to Ubuntu devs. Is there someone actually interested in investigating this? If so, please list anything that would be useful to check when the bug occurs (about once a month for me with 8.10). Some additional info. The last time this bug (or something very similar -- hard to say) occurred on my machine, even restarting X wouldn't work. Investigating more closely, I realised that the focus was always stuck to one one window -- or part of a window. For example, at one point, the focus was on the desktop switcher in the panel. It would respond to clicks and everything, but nothing else would. Then I killed the panel (it auto-respawned) and suddenly, the focus would follow the mouse again (I would see the window title bars change colour). But as soon as I clicked on a certain window, it would grab the focus forever until I killed it. Killing the window manager usually does not help. Restarting X sometimes works, but the last time, it didn't and I actually had to reboot the machine. -- No more mouse events after using rdesktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/55739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 274995] Re: MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically if non-loopback network interfaces are still up
@ Nicolas: yes, yes, you are definately right. there seems to be some kind of vacation taking since the release. ive seen more regressions on this release than any other. nothing mayor. but the ammount of technicalites have long past their bearable threshold. i was too considering another distribution, once my exams are over and i can afford to have a semi working laptop for a while. i think all of these bugs related to alsa, networks, and whatnot to be related to upstart. i dont know what the change was since hardy. but i think the push to start migrating to upstart must have triggered all sort of conflicts (things shutting down in an unexpected order, for example). i think this to be the case, because my personal experence is that some bugs are quite random...sometimes when i boot, i will get no thermal sensors, and fan would run non stop, some times, everything is ok. some times i get stuck at ALSA shutting down, sometimes i dont, having wlan0 on auto (/etc/network/interfaces) with my home wireless network configured. will ONLY work when the network is available, if its not, bringing network interfaces up during boot will timeout after 5 minutes aprox. another issue is concerning backlight, and screen control. its laggy at best. my fn-F3 power-off display doesnt work anymore. i could go on ranting,.. but i dont think thats the point of this bug report. good luck -- MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically if non-loopback network interfaces are still up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274995 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
