I booted my computer the other day off of a 8.10 live CD and the issue

I suspect that this is a race condition between synaptic read the
package cache and packagekit. Packagekit gets a

Hello hyperair,
11_rtl8187_workaround does not work for me. After resume, the network is
disabled. I need right-click on network applet and enable network.
'sudo ifconfig wlan0 down' does not result in any messages and the
network applet still showing connected state. But 'ifconfig' does not
i had firefox 3 dump core ... took my quite some time to find it was
because i accidently overflowed my filesystem...
for one programs should not fail that badly

The issue still happens on a near-daily basis.
I have yet to upgrade to 8.10 on this machine, so I don't know if the
issue is fixed there. Additionally, I am unwilling to run non-stable
versions of Ubuntu as the affected machine is my workstation and needs
to work at least somewhat reliably. :)
pulse-audio seems to have an effect.
i can reproduce with skype and pidgin.
this has just been upgraded with ibex.
1. launch pidgin.
2. launch skype and start a conversation.
3. end the conversation
