you should do a full upgrade, because the fglrx from hardy's repository
isn't compatible with the new kernel.

The above statement is certainly incorrect:
"network-manager in intrepid does not support /etc/network/interfaces
configuration."
The ifupdown plugin does support interfaces in /etc/network/interfaces,
it just does not support mapping stanzas properly. As
/etc/init.d/networking is run before /etc
The problem is with the standard 8.10 CD. I've never used any other
Linux on this machine.

Unfortunately, I can't tell, as I am also a victim of all the intel bugs
of Intrepid [1], and I had to go back to hardy . I will try as soon as
possible (maybe next weekend ?) to install an intrepid on a new
partition
