[Bug 354243] Re: Nautilus fails to browse any share on network to which Iomega Home Network Hard Drive (MDHD500-N, firmware K108.W15) is attached.
OK, summing it up (again): - You boot a Jaunty beta LiveCD - Running smbclient -L NASBOXIPADDRESS successfully lists the shares on NAS box - Running findsmb successfully shows NAS box - Running smbtree -N doesn't list the NAS box - Double-Clicking on Windows network in Nautilus Places/Network brings a Unable to mount location / Failed to retrieve share list from server error box. [Bug 361066] [NEW] Difficult to share external hard drives
Public bug reported: A user found it hard to share files on an external hard drive. Although it is not clear which package to file the bug against, I guess samba is a reasonable starting point. The user wanted to share files on an external usb hard drive. nautilus- share made that part easy, except that when I tried to access the share, I got a not-very-helpful generic error message from nautilus. So I tried to use smbclient directly, and got only NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME errors, even though 'smbclient -L' revealed the share existing normally. After checking the samba log on the user's laptop it appeared that the shared path (/media/USB-DISK) did not exist! But it certainly did. Eventually I realised that the problem was that the 'nobody' user could not access /media/USB-DISK because hal's default policy is to mount disks so that they are only readable by the mounting user. So the next step was to add the mount options 'fmask=111,dmask=000' to the volume, which was ok to do in nautilus, and then remount the disk. But I still got NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME errors on the client. I thought that maybe I would have to restart samba to persuade it to try and look in /media/USB-DISK again, but that didn't work--and then, the share disappeared from the output of smblcient -L entirely! At this point I ran 'net usershare list' on the server and got the following output: info_fn: file /var/lib/samba/usershares/blah is not a well formed usershare file. info_fn: Error was Path not allowed. Hm, not very clear. At this point I gave up and began to write this bug report. Meanwhile, my user rebooted, and then examined the share properties in nautilus. Now, they got an error saying that the share would not work because 'usershare owner only' needed to be set to false. After changing the option and restarting samba, I was then able to access the share. Phew! So I think there are a couple of different bugs here: 1. Unclear error messages from samba if it is unable to access a shared directory 2. No warning from nautilus-share if samba can't access a shared directory 3. nautilus-share did not recognise that the situation had changed and did not present the useful message until the user had restarted ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Difficult to share external hard drives https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/361066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

True, but it's far more common that it's bad content sent from a forged address. Not sending backscatter is a clear best pracice these days. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel EXA seems to work quite stable with the current Intel driver shipped with Jaunty and i915. But if I use UXA it hangs very often. The most common problem is changing to text console while a video is running. It works at first but while switching back the screen stays black but the movie goes on. SSH connect is still possible but after a short period the whole system hangs. If I change to console without running XV at first everything works fine. I have saved the graphic registers according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen. I am using xv overlay because of the tearing problem. I haven't tested the problem with textured video yet but it is no real option atm. The whole video memory seems to be corrupted because if I restart the system X crashes the first time and I have to relogin. Afterwards I couldn't switch to text console. Only black and colored vertical lines are shown but it is possible to switch back. If I shutdown the system and boot again it is possible to login automatically and switch to console and back. I guess both problems seem to be connected. [Bug 360984] [NEW] [jaunty] Hotkeys/Troubleshooting report, Samsung R70 laptop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal-info Hello, I am using the Jaunty beta with today's (04/14) updates. Some of my laptop hotkeys such as increase/decrease display brightness, toogle WLAN on/off, select video output and some less important Samsung specific do not work. I followed the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting and would like to give a report. FN+F4: toogle video output (LCD, external connector) EV_MSC code=4 value=130 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 FN+F5: switch LCD backlight on/off EV_MSC code=4 value=132 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 FN+F9: switch WLAN on/off EV_MSC code=4 value=134 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 FN+Key up: increase LCD brightness EV_MSC code=4 value=136 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 FN+Key down: decrease LCD brightness EV_MSC code=4 value=137 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 The FN+Esc keystroke is intended to activate standby mode. This does not work; the laptop is actually going standby but the LCD stays off when woken up again (however, pressing the power button shuts it safely down). Suspend and resume via software works fine. There are some more Samsung (and Windows) specific FN-keystrokes such as FN+F2: show battery state EV_MSC code=4 value=131 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 FN+F7: run some PC doctor intended for system recovery EV_MSC code=4 value=177 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 FN+F8: toogle CPU frequency states: powersave, normal, performance (Samsung applet in Windows) EV_MSC code=4 value=179 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 I also appended the log files as wished in the hotkeys page. Re: [Bug 342923] Re: (Needs UXA) Kubuntu Jaunty Intel 945 GM - Poor sluggish graphics performance in Kate text, etc.
Option AccelMethod EXA Option MigrationHeuristic greedy I also tried these options but they caused major visual corruption when trying to enable a 2nd monitor using xrandr after logon. I set up these options and I use an external 2nd monitor and it works ok, but it does corrupt horribly at the kdm login screen right up until the resolution gets set properly by krandrtray. Whilst I understand the sentiment that the priority is a working desktop rather than performance, the speed this reduces a system to make it practically unusable as an everyday environment. Similar to others above, I was running KDE 4.2 under Intrepid and had no such issues, so this is likely a problem between kwin and the newer intel driver. [Bug 349555] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()
I tried about a week ago same setup, on Debian 5.0. Everything worked as normal. Hardy worked just fine. I currently compiled latest libmtp, gnomad2 and Jaunty still mounts/docks incorrectly. AT this point I feel that it has alot more to do with how it is being handled by the USBbus, not so much with gphoto, etc... The biggest hint I have is the double mounting aspect. When plugged in, in the past (and on Debian), the Zen will 'mount' briefly, then disengage, making it available to mount through gnomad, rhythmbox, etc... On Jaunty since early Alpha stages, when plugged in it does the same action, but then immediately mounts a second time (I can watch it happen on the Zen screen), and stays in a 'docked' state to the system. It does not work with Gnomad or Rhythmbox at this point. If I pick it from the desktop or from places, etc... and choose to eject, it frees up and then is available to use normally. This is the most obvious thing I see. Something changed in Jaunty as to how it is handled by USB, or by the system in general. Again, I am willing to help by tracking whatever else it may be. The above valgrind log may not show any error, but it was on and logging and I got the same Gphoto error when plugged in that time. Tell me what other info you might need. [Bug 361002] [NEW] The program postgres is needed by initdb but was not found in the same directory as /usr/lib/postgresql/8.3/bin/initdb.
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 System: VPS at Tektonic The system was previously running Debian Lenny and I switched to Jaunty. It was mostly clean process except postgresql. Finally I removed everything related to postgresql (config, data, binaries, scripts) and tried to install from scratch. At the end of the installation initdb is unable to find postgres binary under /usr/lib/postgresql/8.3/bin although it is there. also /dev/null permissions are ok and udev is not running at all: ls -lart /dev/null crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 3 2008-06-24 07:56 /dev/null Command to install: sudo apt-get install postgresql Reading package lists... [Bug 342923] Re: (Needs UXA) Kubuntu Jaunty Intel 945 GM - Poor sluggish graphics performance in Kate text, etc.
I am installing Mandriva 2009.1 rc2, and it gives me the option, Use EXA in place of XAA ( Better performance for rendering and composite ) So that means EXA would be better? I dont know wgat UXA is, but Mandriva has reputation off one off the best hardware support under Linux. -- (Needs UXA) Kubuntu Jaunty Intel 945 GM - Poor sluggish graphics performance in Kate text, etc. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/342923 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
