The widget that monitors connected midias on Jaunty stops answering if
you try to remove a media that is actually in use.
Steps to reproduce:
- Insert a media in the computer (in my case it was a SD card)
- Open a Konsole windows and cd into the dir of the media
Today, I turn on the computer and I see the sound muted again. Alsamixer
shows the device muted, too.
After doing sudo /lib/udev/alsa-utils in a terminal prompt, the device
gets unmuted.
I attach two screenshots (before and after running sudo /lib/udev/alsa-
utils, respectively).

This is an X problem, as the description shows. I don't believe it is
possible to have a change in GNOME to affect this issue without fixing
the underlying problem of X.org handling of modifier keys.

I am unable to find any support in the mainline kernel for the
disablemodules kernel parameter now or in the past? I am also unable
to find the option used on the alternate CD.
It seems that a general solution would be possible for non-builtin

Whenever I choose File/Open File or attempt to download a file, Firefox
flashes the file selection dialog on the screen and immediately crashes.

The BIOS was the latest (read from 2004), and yes the DSDT contains
errors.
Well it works with old kernels as mentioned above. The only other OS
that was ever installed was WIndows98 and I do not really remember the
behavior.
The laptop is in retirement for 3 month now, I do tend to give it
