Mmm, in my case I was having problems due to having set my keyboard to
US Int. mode, and trying to switch to US Standard mode, it borked. I
have Alt+Tab working, but I can't keyboard shortcut access the menus
at the top of applications.

I've tested it with a second PC and another ICQ account (Ubuntu 9.04,

I can confirm that export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 works for me.
However, I found out two other workarounds. When I install xorg-
driver-fglrx after logging in and neither restart nor run aticonfig

From the available list I selected Java6.
Package manager kicks in then triggers the bug report tool due to a failure on
apt.

I feel your frustration and do agree the value of this bug should have a higher
ranking than low (something more like life threatening). I have noticed some
simple things that just simply do not work if you do not have root privileges.
For instance, as part of my job I have to install
