I looked into this a little more and believe this is a limitation of
libvirt and kvm interaction. kvm doesn't seem to have a way to specify
the image is readonly. The best option is to suppress the denied message
since it will happen every time and lead to confusion in normal use (and
debugging).

I have had a privoxy go-slow - several seconds on every lookup - since

9.10beta for no reason that I could see.
I was updating and did have a new OO.org update.

I think increasing the nice-level in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf made the
problem go away. I set it to 3 instead of -11.
