[Bug 252245] Re: unable to connect to windows network pc's

2009-11-21 Thread Laszlo_Lebrun
I was full of hope and tried:

3) List all packages appear ... then i selected for each package 'Mark
for removal'

The removal of smb-client is however dependent of the removal of ubuntu-desktop.
Didn't you notice the same dependency?

[Bug 481510] Re: Can't read temperature with i2c_i801 anymore

2009-11-21 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
For lack of a functioning driver, all sensors reports:

t...@katran:~$ sensors

Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:   +60.0°C  (crit = +255.0°C)

t...@katran:~$

temp1 always reads 60, whereas the temperature that was read with other
drivers pre-karmic always varied with system utilization.

[Bug 477154] Re: When headphones are plugged in, the speaker does not get muted automatically.

2009-11-21 Thread Janos Zsitvai
Someone was kind enough to write a patch already: http://mailman.alsa-
project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2009-November/023390.html

It needs the bits related to sound/pci/hda/hda_codec.c and
sound/pci/hda/hda_local.h from http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail
/alsa-devel/2009-November/023277.html as those patches haven't been
merged yet.

I've tested this on kernel 2.6.32-rc7 and I can confirm that it works
correctly now.

[Bug 438021] Re: epiphany-webkit ignores icedtea6-plugin

I would like to add that epiphany webkit 2.28.0 also ignores java-6 -sun
jre plugin in order to show applets in the browser. I have enabled
activate java and activate java script but epiphany doesn't show any
applet. Firefox 3.5 shows applets in karmic so, it is not the java jre
but perhaps a lost link from epiphany to the java file?

[Bug 428133] Re: gparted brings up devicekit-disks authentication when scanning

2009-11-21 Thread komputes
I don't get the dialogs anymore but interestingly enough, now when I
unmount a partition in gnome (external usb in my case), followed by
opening gparted, gparted does not show the device which had that
partition. The device has to be mounted in grnome to be viewable in
gparted. pitti, if this is an unrelated side effect and you would like
me to open another bug, let me know.

@philip
No I do not have any link to nm-applet in ~/.config/autostart . However in my
case the easiest way to get the icon working is to remove the notification area
from the top panel and then add it back.

[Bug 486166] Re: DNS stopped working with Three Australia mobile broadband

2009-11-21 Thread irober02
Changing DNS settings to 10.188.66.103;10.176.66.71 works for me.

This is the setting that 3's M$ Windoze connection app now returns.

I've made that change on a couple of Ubuntu 9.10 systems and network
connectivity was immediately reinstated.

3 seems to have changed their Australian network sometime in the evening
of 19 November 2009. Nice of them to tell their customers! :-(

But then, their line is 'We don't support Linus. Our modems won't work
under Linux.' Even though they work perfectly (except for the secrets
they choose to keep!

I hope someone can escalate this information into the update channels.

bye

ian

[Bug 468741] Re: Hidden SSID WLAN doesn't work under Ubuntu.9.10 at all

2009-11-21 Thread hall900
I'have the same problem in a acer aspire 5735. After many test, i see
when go to select hidden network, the password not appear (in the
profile the password, wep 128 bits, is ok), the problema can be in the
password retrieving (i haven't a key ring), that affect the automatic
connection and the manual hidden connection. As well of others, creating
a new network profile works as well as unhide the ssid.

[Bug 405525] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion ze2000 (EC205UA#ABA)] suspend/resume failure

2009-11-21 Thread Felix
Sorry, I was mistaken. Suspend worked, because after installing and
uninstalling the fglrx-driver via envy, the vesa-driver was used in the
xorg.conf. in reality, none of the above mentioned methods had an effect. now
it got even worse. when the ati driver is used, the screen stays black at
startup. but: this does not happen, if i start in single mode and start gdm
manually with service gdm start...
maybe it's a bug in the ati-driver. the fglrx-driver won't work at all.

[Bug 486201] [NEW] Docky cannot initialize Transmisson custom item (Path too long)

2009-11-21 Thread Alexey Nedilko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

When I'm adding Transmission to the Docky items, Do won't start the next
time. Here is the snippet of --debug (I'm ataching the whole output, but
that's the part that shows the problem):

[Error 10:39:29.458] Error in RunOnMainThread: Path is too long. Path:
BitTorrent клиент Transmission: Скачивайте и обменивайтесь файлами в сети
BitTorrent (Do.Universe.Linux.ApplicationItem)
[Debug 10:39:29.460]   at System.IO.Directory.Exists (System.String path)
[0x0]
  at Docky.Core.Default.ItemsService.MaybeCreateCustomItem (System.String
identifier) [0x0]
  at Docky.Core.Default.ItemsService.InternalAddItemToDock (System.String
identifier, Int32 position) [0x0]
  at Docky.Core.Default.ItemsService.UpdateItems () [0x0]
  at Docky.Core.Default.ItemsService.HandleUniverseInitialized (System.Object
sender, System.EventArgs e) [0x0]
  at (wrapper delegate-invoke)
System.EventHandler:invoke_void__this___object_EventArgs

  at Do.Core.UniverseManager.InitializeAsyncm__1E () [0x0]
  at Do.Platform.ApplicationService+RunOnMainThreadc__AnonStorey10.m__28
(System.Object sender, System.EventArgs e) [0x0]

The string that is treated as path, is in fact the Comment in ru_RU locale of
the Transmission .desktop file. Here is the .desktop file:
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Transmission BitTorrent Client
GenericName=BitTorrent Client
Comment=Download and share files over BitTorrent
Exec=transmission %F
Icon=transmission
Terminal=false
TryExec=transmission
Type=Application
MimeType=application/x-bittorrent;
Categories=Network;FileTransfer;P2P;GTK;
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=transmission
Icon[ru_RU]=transmission
Name[ru_RU]=BitTorrent клиент Transmission
Comment[ru_RU]=Скачивайте и обменивайтесь файлами в сети BitTorrent

I've looked into  Docky.Core.Default.ItemsService.MaybeCreateCustomItem()
method:
AbstractDockItem MaybeCreateCustomItem (ref string identifier)
{
ItemDockItem customItem = null;

if (identifier.StartsWith (file://))
identifier = identifier.Substring
(file://.Length);

if (File.Exists (identifier) || Directory.Exists
(identifier)) {
if (identifier.EndsWith (.desktop)) {

So that's where Directory.Exists fails because the path is very much
incorrect - in fact, it obviously isn't a path.

As far as I see, there are several possible fixes:
1) Add try..catch to code that treats the item identifier as path (the code
snippet above)
2) Change the format of ItemsService_CustomItems so that each identifier there
contains information about what type of item it represents: a file, a folder, a
.desktop file or something other.

OS: Ubuntu 9.10 x64

LANG: ru_RU.UTF-8

Alex

[Bug 431212] Re: Sound fading out on Dell E521 with Nvidia and Karmic

2009-11-21 Thread Flabdablet
Getting the same fading effect with a fresh install of Karmic on a Dell
Dimension E520.

lspci lists the sound hardware as
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Plug headphones into the front panel.
2. Open Places-Home Folder-Examples-Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase.
3. Double-click InTheCircle.oga.

Playback starts normally, but sound fades smoothly and is totally
inaudible by 0:44.

Closing the movie player before sound has totally faded, waiting ten
seconds, then double-clicking InTheCircle.oga again will start playback
at a much reduced output level, as if the fade has been going on in the
background even with no sound playing.

Leaving the movie player closed for a couple of minutes is enough to
reset volume to normal.

Headphones plugged into the back panel are unaffected unless the plug is
switched from front to back partway through a fade, in which case the
sound level remains constant but faded.

[Bug 486207] [NEW] sound is disabled

2009-11-21 Thread mezquitale
Public bug reported:

Sound is disabled in karmic, I have noticed this issue in both my laptop
and desktop using KARMIC. I first noticed it sporadically while
listening to music using firefox or rhythmbox but only every now and
then. I noticed it quite frequently on my desktop while playing urban
terror. In the urban terror console I saw a message saying that it was
dropping sound. I then began testing sound on my laptop while listening
to youtube videos and sure enough, the sound would be dropped after
30-45 minutes.

Not only does sound gets dropped but also my keyboard settings keep
getting changed to international usa. This happens when my sound goes
out, my keyboard settings get changed to international usa as well.
This keeps happening on karmic.

2009-11-21 Thread Laszlo_Lebrun
I was full of hope and tried:

The removal of smb-client is however dependent of the removal of ubuntu-desktop.
Didn't you notice the same dependency?

[Bug 486210] [NEW] Crashes while updating Ubuntu One directory

2009-11-21 Thread Bernd Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

While working in the background and updating the Ubuntu One directory,
the application crashed. It does it regularely. Yesterday, it started
synchronizing the directory (containing roughly 2 files), it crashed
after having processed about 200 files. Today, it started again from
scratch after rebooting. After 2 or 3 hours it crashed. Any time I
restart the application now, I receive the error message There was a
fatal error in Ubuntu One. This may be a bug in the software.

Is there a workaround?

[Bug 485726] Re: No shaping in PyFribidi

2009-11-21 Thread Abdellah Chelli
I have contacted fribidi pyfribidi authors. the resume:

- Ubuntu up to 9.10 includes fribidi 0.10.9 (fribidi0) which doesn't do
Arabic shaping (only bidi). Pyfribidi up to 0.6.0 was build on this
version.

- fribidi 0.19.2 (fribidi2) which has Arabic shaping feature is not
released yet officially.

Ref:
http://www.fribidi.org/
http://pyfribidi.sourceforge.net/

So this bug could be changed to Invalid or Wish-list? I don't know.
Thank you.

[Bug 483220] Re: package bld 0.3.4.1-3 failed to install/upgrade:

2009-11-21 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Great! Thats good news :-)

Thanks for taking care of that! This way, we will be able to sync this
package for Lucid.

To get it fixed in Karmic, would you mind following the SRU process described
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates ?
Your debdiff seems good: for a SRU, you only have to change the version to
ubuntu0.1, and change lucid by karmic-proposed.

If you prefer, I can do it for you.

Good job,
Fabrice

2009-11-21 Thread Reini68
Thanks. That worked, more or less. At first it didn't work, but after
installing sane-utils and libsane-extras via the deb-packages it seems
to work. Only remaining problem is that I cannot quit xsane and so I
have to kill the task to get rid of it. But that's a minor problem.

Uh-oh, seems the problem is back on 9.10 with the latest updates.
Today was the second time I booted my Vostro 1310 just with the

same way on 9.04.
I'll apply the extra config on grub and see what happens.

[Bug 486215] [NEW] Network unreachable in java only

2009-11-21 Thread Kjella
Public bug reported:

After the last apt-get update/dist-upgrade, my java applications have
stopped working. I can browse, play online games, chat and whatever else
applications run fine, but my java applications all error out like this:

Error while sending packet to 70.83.141.197:38954: java.io.IOException:

I have not changed any settings, firewalls or anything else related to
the network in this timeperiod. Everything looks normal to me, I can for
example without problems complete a traceroute:

kjel...@arrakis:~$ sudo tracert 70.83.141.197

Is there possibly some sort of policy that could be blocking java? I
have made absolutely no such policy configuration, but this is an

[Bug 486214] [NEW] Jockey fails to install nvidia on multiple kernels

2009-11-21 Thread Nicolas Joyard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-185-kernel-source

Using kernels 2.6.31-15-generic and 2.6.31-9-rt.

When installing nvidia using jockey on the -generic kernel, it installs
only for the currently running kernel. When booting the other kernel,
starting X fails with an nvidia module not found error. You have to
manually run dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-XXX-kernel-source to have it
properly installed on the other kernel.

[Bug 453940] Re: Ubuntu One does not detect new files in folder

2009-11-21 Thread roboducky28
Hi,

I'm seeing the same problem...I just opened Ubuntu One for the first
time today after seeing it in my new Karmic upgrade.

I copied some folders by dragging them into my Ubuntu One folder in my
home directory, and while I can see the entire folder structure on the
web, all of the folders are empty and the web interface claims 0 bytes
Used (0.0%).

The icon shows that synchronization is complete.

I'm attaching my log files in a tarball.

Thanks,
-Emily

[Bug 486222] [NEW] Google Reader source loses subscriptions moved to it

2009-11-21 Thread Cactus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: liferea

When using a GOogle Reader source in Liferea, moving a feed subscription
to the source seems to work OK (it shows up in the UI and I can read it
there), however, when the Google Reader source is first updated, the
subscription vanishes.

Note: This causes data loss, as all the 'read'/'important' flags from
the subscription are lost in the process.

** Affects: liferea (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

 Hi Tea,

 OK, that's good (what you reported). Are you behind a proxy server?
 Also, can you try quitting the Ubuntu One client and then from a
 terminal session (Applications-Accessories-Terminal) start the Ubuntu
 One client and report anything that is output? ubuntuone-client-applet

 Thank you,

 Joshua
