[Bug 493266] [NEW] Xrubik: 3rd view shows different cube than two others
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xpuzzles As far as I know, xRubik uses three windows to display the same cube. But as you can see in the attachment, the third view differs from the others - note the pink marked front with the orange square in its middle - the third cube view on the right doesn't resamble the other two. ** Affects: xpuzzles (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Xrubik: 3rd view shows different cube than two others https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493266 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 493143] Re: windows line 1038 - takes the long rout of opening evolution
Personally, I feel it undermines having the applet in the first place if it's just recommended to use the applications menu. This is more true for newer users, who may not notice or realise the panel applet and what it does. If a user has already customised it, it would seem to me they're already going to know how to open it anyway. Menu entries can also be edited and removed via System Preferences Main Menu, I'm not sure if that logic would mean we should just use terminal commands, as they can be customised too. -- windows line 1038 - takes the long rout of opening evolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have the latest updates. I have a debian install (same hard drive) with the same problem. I have run the 9.04 install dvd so that ubuntu is runnning of the dvd and had the same problems. [Bug 493272] [NEW] complete freeze on boot with autologin enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Installed i386 Karmic from installer cd, enabled 'log in automatically' during the install process. Did aptitude full-upgrade, and now gdm freezes during boot: monitor is black, num-lock led doesn't react to toggling num lock key, no disk activity i.e. whole computer appears crashed. Can boot by selecting 'recovery' option in grub menu, which gives a command-line login, after logging in there, can start GUI with 'startx' (which launches desktop, i.e. not gdm login screen). My symptoms are basically the same as described in http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=826postcount=5 (except that in my case the freeze is with a completely blank screen). Also (which might be related), I can't seem to unlock the gdm settings dialog (the one started with 'System-Administration-Login screen'): clicking on the unlock button has no effect, the widgets stay greyed-out. Starting gdmsetup from a root terminal, I get: r...@desktop:/etc/gdm# gdmsetup ** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Error calling GetValue('daemon/TimedLoginEnable'): The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files ** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Error calling GetValue('daemon/TimedLoginDelay'): The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: init delay=30 ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: Found current seat: /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Seat1 ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: running 'ck-history --frequent --seat='Seat1' --session-type=''' ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: explicitly skipping user: nobody ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: user icon changed ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: adding monitor for '/home/istvan/.face' ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: Getting list of sessions for user 1000 ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: Found 1 sessions for user istvan ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: not adding session without a x11 display: /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session1 ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: history output: istvan 4 ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: history output: root 4 ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: GdmUserManager: excluding user 'root' ** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Error calling GetValue('daemon/AutomaticLoginEnable'): The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files ** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Error calling GetValue('daemon/TimedLoginEnable'): The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files ** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Error calling GetValue('daemon/TimedLogin'): The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files ** (gdmsetup:2319): DEBUG: init user='(null)' auto=False with ** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Failed to unlock: The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files repeated every time I press the 'unlock' button. [Bug 493276] [NEW] focus randomly jumps to cursor location
Public bug reported: First off, I'm dual-booting Ubuntu (v9.04) and Windows, and this bug is only present on my Ubuntu partition. It isn't package-specific; it just happens randomly every minute or so. It's especially annoying when I'm typing and my text suddenly starts appearing where I left my cursor several lines up, or the window focus switches, or a page randomly scrolls. I suppose I could have some weird touchpad sensitivity setting, but I've already tried messing around with those to no effect. [Bug 493278] Re: erlang binary package ballooning in lucid, must be fixed for CD sizing
It's possible this size change traces back to the following Debian changelog entry: erlang (1:13.b.1-dfsg-6) unstable; urgency=low * Restored debug info in beam files for default build. It's better to use more space than to ship broken modules (debugger, dialyzer). The patch is simply commented out in debian/patches/series, so if someone has to strip debug info, he can simply uncomment it. -- erlang binary package ballooning in lucid, must be fixed for CD sizing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 493143] Re: windows line 1038 - takes the long rout of opening evolution
I think the suggestion in the original report is valid, but I don't feel it is something we should document. The panel UI seems to change every release, and trying to explain in text how to find certain icons in the panel can be an imperfect process. In this case we could say something along the lines of Find the envelope icon in the upper taskbar by the clock, click it, and choose Evolution Mail from the dropdown. However, that is rather wordy, when we could just keep Start Evolution by pressing Applications-Internet-Evolution Mail. The latter is more reliable as it is (mostly) independent of the user's UI preferences. Ryan's point about being able to customize the menus is also valid, but is a more involved procedure than adding/removing applets. Finally, the Applications menu is more like using the Start menu in Windows, and this document is geared toward users switching from Windows - this might make the new environment feel a little more friendly to new users making the switch. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Won't Fix -- windows line 1038 - takes the long rout of opening evolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 493169] Re: windows line 1058, no one ever mentioned the Local Folders, so how is the user suposed to know what or where it is?
If they use imap then this quide does not apply to them. T-bird, by default, only stores mail from pop mail accouts in mbox format. And with imap the user would automaticaly get there mails once the configure the account. Instead the guide should point out that the Local Folders folder is located inside the Mail or ImapMail folder that they copyed during the preparation steps. Acttually i think the quide should point out that it is not nesesery to make backups of your emails if you use imap, especialy as they will just be frustrated once they get to the restoring par, because Thunderbird didnt store the mbox files in the ImapMail folder by default, it does however store a bunch of MSF files with excatly the same name (different extension) that the user will likly think are the mbox files (mbox files dosn't have an extension), Evolution will just gray out all file types and not let the user continue with out any way for the user to know what hi is doing wrong, and probably thinking that he just lost all his emails. - Heres a suggestion for the new text. Open the folder filenameLocal Folders/filename, witch is found in side the filenameMail/filename folder, look for files with names such as filenameInbox/filename, filenameUnsent Messages/filename, filenameSent/filename. [Bug 484406] Re: Kernel oops always after resume from suspend
I'm still getting these crashes with the latest linux-image-generic 2.6.31.16.29. This is reproducable and it always logs that 'unable to handle kernel paging request' message if it is able to log anything at all. I'm attaching some more samples of that. I did a fresh karmic install on a spare partition and that doesn't have this problem. I'm wondering what could make that difference. I tried with the same kernel versions. Remaining difference is the fresh install doesn't have software raid, only one user account is there, some packages are not installed and pulseaudio is still installed. All that doesn't look like it could make that difference. I'm close to installing the production system fresh and hope the problem will not come back. ** Attachment added: syslog-pagingBug.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36505519/syslog-pagingBug.log -- Kernel oops always after resume from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/484406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 493282] [NEW] hplip-data ballooned by 5MB in lucid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hplip The hplip-data package is 5MB larger in lucid than it was in karmic, making this package the single top contributor to the fact that the amd64 alternate CD is currently 22MB oversized. The change in size is due to a huge increase in the size of all the ppds in the package; e.g.: -120883 hp-color_laserjet_cp6015-ps.ppd +447513 hp-color_laserjet_cp6015-ps.ppd This needs to be remedied so we can have usable CDs for alpha-1. [Bug 491483] Re: Since failsave-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg Using Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.10 on Toshiba Laptop with ATI radeon HD 3650 Today morning I did updated the system with updates available. Following is the recent log entry in the Software update module in KDE. Installed: ureadahead, ureadahead Updated: x11-common, sreadahead, xserver-xorg-video-all, xserver-xorg-input-all, xserver-xorg, xorg, x11-common, sreadahead, xserver-xorg-video-all, xserver-xorg-input-all, xserver-xorg, xorg After this update I get Ubuntu running in low-graphics mode error at the boot time and If I press cancel it boots me upto the normal login screen. How to get rid of the this error? Also I loose the com positioning (desktop effects), I need to manually resume the same. (ALT+SHIFT+F12). Please resolve urgently. Thanks, Manish Edit: check this post as well for various experience on this particular issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1343261 + + Edit: this is caused by failsave-x starting if kdm is used and gdm is disabed since gdm will fail with exit status !=0 and thus triggering failsave-x. So this affects all users that use kdm while having gdm installed as well and kdm starting slower than failsave-x (they both race to start X first). + To fix this make sure that failsave-x checks that gdm is enabled before assuming that X is broken. -- Since failsave-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
