[Bug 493266] [NEW] Xrubik: 3rd view shows different cube than two others

2009-12-06 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xpuzzles

As far as I know, xRubik uses three windows to display the same cube.
But as you can see in the attachment, the third view differs from the others -
note the pink marked front with the orange square in its middle - the third
cube view on the right doesn't resamble the other two.

[Bug 493265] [NEW] Bluetooth adapter disables automatically

I think Ubuntu generated most of the info you need (or I hope so), but
if you need anything else please let me know.

EDIT : I forgot to add that I booted in from a live cd and the bluetooth
dongle worked perfectly. So there isn't any hardware problem - I think.

2009-12-06 Thread Connor Imes
I can see how that might be confusing, esp. if users don't store their
emails in the Local Folders area. I updated this text to use Local
Folders as an example, and also added imap.gmail.com as an example
since gmail is very popular. Fix committed to Lucid development branch.

[Bug 493143] Re: windows line 1038 - takes the long rout of opening evolution

2009-12-06 Thread Ryan Williams
Personally, I feel it undermines having the applet in the first place if
it's just recommended to use the applications menu. This is more true
for newer users, who may not notice or realise the panel applet and what
it does. If a user has already customised it, it would seem to me
they're already going to know how to open it anyway.

Menu entries can also be edited and removed via System Preferences
Main Menu, I'm not sure if that logic would mean we should just use
terminal commands, as they can be customised too.

2009-12-06 Thread Connor Imes
In musicandphotos, the text Click on guibuttonImport/guibutton
applies to the automatic popup window, not manually importing in F-Spot,
so that section will remain unchanged. I have provided both the button
and the menu option in the windows section, and will look more into the
musicandphotos section separately. A fix has been committed to the
Lucid development branch.

[Bug 275351] Re: slow boot on intel DG45ID

2009-12-06 Thread Eric R Drayer
I just bought the intel DP43TF.
I am using ubuntu 9.04 amd64 and radeon 9000 video card.
I was using an abit ip35v mother board with the radeon 9000 with no Blender or
mouse problems.
I have the ehci bug as above now.
I have other problems as well.
Could this board be interfering with X11 and or the open source radeon driver?
The mouse pointer icon is a 1 inch square and blender has no text (the entire
interface has all the text removed).
Curiously the screen shot actually shows the correct icon.
I have tried other mice.
I have the latest updates.
I have a debian install (same hard drive) with the same problem.
I have run the 9.04 install dvd so that ubuntu is runnning of the dvd and had
the same problems.
I tried to use karmic on the last board but after the install and grub there
was no way to get video or use terminal(recovery).
Even if I had been able to get a recovery prompt I do not know how to change
the configuration to use a different driver as xorg.conf has been depreciated.
The abit board has died... bad bios maby.

[Bug 485651] Re: Karmic + KDM + NVidia = Can't boot (low graphic mode)

I see the same happening here: fully updated (dec. 4 2009) 64 bit
Kubuntu Karmic on AMD, NVIDIA 190.42 binary driver from nvidia web site.
Kubuntu with KDM. No problems when GDM is used. console login with
startx works flawlessly. Kernel version 2.6.31-16-generic. Quickly
selecting console from the Low resolution dialog also lets KDE start
properly here.

and tell me if that works for you.

[Bug 493272] [NEW] complete freeze on boot with autologin enabled

2009-12-06 Thread Daniel Abel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Installed i386 Karmic from installer cd, enabled 'log in automatically'
during the install process. Did aptitude full-upgrade, and now gdm
freezes during boot: monitor is black, num-lock led doesn't react to
toggling num lock key, no disk activity i.e. whole computer appears
crashed.

Can boot by selecting 'recovery' option in grub menu, which gives a
command-line login, after logging in there, can start GUI with 'startx'
(which launches desktop, i.e. not gdm login screen).

My symptoms are basically the same as described in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=826postcount=5
(except that in my case the freeze is with a completely blank screen).

Also (which might be related), I can't seem to unlock the gdm settings dialog
(the one started with 'System-Administration-Login screen'): clicking on the
unlock button has no effect, the widgets stay greyed-out. Starting gdmsetup
from a root terminal, I get:
r...@desktop:/etc/gdm# gdmsetup

** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Error calling

with
** (gdmsetup:2319): WARNING **: Failed to unlock: The name

repeated every time I press the 'unlock' button.

I'll try disabling auto-login as described in that forum post, but even if that
works, the bug is pretty serious: simply installing karmic and all updates
makes the computer completely unusable for a non-pro user

2009-12-06 Thread Tim Blokdijk
Alright, I added a bug upstream. See
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603917
I used the Also affects project function to link this bug to the upstream bug.

Removing grub is exactly what should happen, you'll find on the next
update that this issue is now fixed for you.

It looks like you were affected by one of the bugs in the beta cycle
that forced removal of grub-pc in favor of grub - since this bug is
fixed, I'm closing this report.

[Bug 493276] [NEW] focus randomly jumps to cursor location

2009-12-06 Thread rfong
Public bug reported:

First off, I'm dual-booting Ubuntu (v9.04) and Windows, and this bug is
only present on my Ubuntu partition. It isn't package-specific; it just
happens randomly every minute or so. It's especially annoying when I'm
typing and my text suddenly starts appearing where I left my cursor
several lines up, or the window focus switches, or a page randomly
scrolls. I suppose I could have some weird touchpad sensitivity setting,
but I've already tried messing around with those to no effect.

[Bug 432492] Re: GDM fails to authenticate pre-existent users.

2009-12-06 Thread NoOp
I am also getting:
I- [Could not update ICEauthority file /var/lib/gdm/.ICEauthority]
II- [This is a problem with the configuration sever.
(usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)]
except I am able to login for each user on the system after clicking 'OK' on
the warning popups.

If I open Nautilus as root (gksu nautilus) and look at the permissions
properties, on the machine with errors I show permissions for
/var/lib/gdm/.ICEAuthority as:

Owner: avahi-autopd - Avahi autoip daemon
Access: Read and write
Group: fuse

Note: the machine has been updated from dapper thru karmic the hard
drives changed from 40Gb to 200Gb using Gparted 'copy'.

If I look at the permissions for /var/lib/gdm/.ICEAuthority on a clean
karmic install (with no errors), I see that .ICEAuthority has the same
Owner and Group as the /var/lib/gdm folder:

Owner: gdm - Gnome Display Manager
Access: Read and Write
Group: gdm
Access: none
Others

The exception of course is the Access for Group is set to 'none' on the

[Bug 493278] [NEW] erlang binary package ballooning in lucid, must be fixed for CD sizing

2009-12-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: erlang

The amd64 alternate CD is currently 22MB oversize leading up to alpha 1,
and erlang appears to be a principal culprit. From a report of size
increases of packages on the CD between karmic final and today's lucid
daily:

Changed: erlang-base 3514K
Changed: erlang-xmerl 721K
Changed: erlang-inets 446K
Changed: erlang-mnesia 431K
Changed: erlang-ssl365K
Changed: erlang-public-key 233K
Changed: erlang-syntax-tools 181K
Changed: erlang-runtime-tools 119K

This needs to be corrected if we are to have usable CD images for alpha
1 this week.

[Bug 493278] Re: erlang binary package ballooning in lucid, must be fixed for CD sizing

2009-12-06 Thread Steve Langasek
It's possible this size change traces back to the following Debian
changelog entry:

erlang (1:13.b.1-dfsg-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Restored debug info in beam files for default build. It's better to use
more space than to ship broken modules (debugger, dialyzer). The patch
is simply commented out in debian/patches/series, so if someone has to
strip debug info, he can simply uncomment it.

[Bug 493277] [NEW] Uable to load Ubuntu at all!

2009-12-06 Thread Steve Plant
Public bug reported:

Successfully created a Ubuntu 9.10 disc (and winmd5sum checked it.)
Then when I load the disc (on the same drive which it was made in!) I get the
following 'grey box' error.

Windows – No Disk
 Exception processing message c013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

No idea what this means!!

Two more clicks on 'continue' then brings up the Ubuntu menu and loading
proceeds, but fails with the following long error log which I have
hopefully attatched.

Any help would be appreciated as I can't even get off the starting blocks!

My PC has Win98 on partition C (Active) along with the boot.ini file
Data on partitions D and E
Windows XP is on partition F

Sorry cant see how to make an attatchment - there is nowhere to 'click
and add' and I dont understand what 'seperate by whitespace means!!!'

[Bug 493143] Re: windows line 1038 - takes the long rout of opening evolution

2009-12-06 Thread Connor Imes
I think the suggestion in the original report is valid, but I don't feel
it is something we should document. The panel UI seems to change every
release, and trying to explain in text how to find certain icons in the
panel can be an imperfect process. In this case we could say something
along the lines of Find the envelope icon in the upper taskbar by the
clock, click it, and choose Evolution Mail from the dropdown. However,
that is rather wordy, when we could just keep Start Evolution by
pressing Applications-Internet-Evolution Mail.

The latter is more reliable as it is (mostly) independent of the user's
UI preferences. Ryan's point about being able to customize the menus is
also valid, but is a more involved procedure than adding/removing
applets. Finally, the Applications menu is more like using the Start
menu in Windows, and this document is geared toward users switching from
Windows - this might make the new environment feel a little more
friendly to new users making the switch.

2009-12-06 Thread Rodrigo Moya
I have been working on a new HTML-XML converter, to fix this and other
bugs we have opened, but due to some limitations in the XML parser we
use, I haven't been able to fix all the bugs in the same branch, so I
guess I should try to fix this one separately, without waiting for the
new HTML-XML converter

Sorry for the delay, will work on it tomorrow

[Bug 493169] Re: windows line 1058, no one ever mentioned the Local Folders, so how is the user suposed to know what or where it is?

2009-12-06 Thread AJenbo
If they use imap then this quide does not apply to them. T-bird, by
default, only stores mail from pop mail accouts in mbox format. And with
imap the user would automaticaly get there mails once the configure the
account.

Instead the guide should point out that the Local Folders folder is
located inside the Mail or ImapMail folder that they copyed during
the preparation steps.

Acttually i think the quide should point out that it is not nesesery to
make backups of your emails if you use imap, especialy as they will just
be frustrated once they get to the restoring par, because Thunderbird
didnt store the mbox files in the ImapMail folder by default, it does
however store a bunch of MSF files with excatly the same name (different
extension) that the user will likly think are the mbox files (mbox files
dosn't have an extension), Evolution will just gray out all file types
and not let the user continue with out any way for the user to know what
hi is doing wrong, and probably thinking that he just lost all his
emails.

-

Heres a suggestion for the new text.

Open the folder filenameLocal Folders/filename, witch is found in
side the filenameMail/filename folder, look for files with names
such as filenameInbox/filename, filenameUnsent
Messages/filename, filenameSent/filename. Select a file and press
guibuttonOpen/guibutton. If you have many email messages, you may
have to wait a while for the file to be checked before you can continue.

Changes should then also be made to line 756 to no longer mention the
ImapMail folder.

Around line 712 a note should be added stating that if the user is using
imap, he/she does not need to make a back up of the messages, as they
are already backed up on the server.

[Bug 484406] Re: Kernel oops always after resume from suspend

2009-12-06 Thread brainsail
I'm still getting these crashes with the latest linux-image-generic
2.6.31.16.29. This is reproducable and it always logs that 'unable to
handle kernel paging request' message if it is able to log anything at
all. I'm attaching some more samples of that.

I did a fresh karmic install on a spare partition and that doesn't have
this problem. I'm wondering what could make that difference. I tried
with the same kernel versions. Remaining difference is the fresh install
doesn't have software raid, only one user account is there, some
packages are not installed and pulseaudio is still installed. All that
doesn't look like it could make that difference. I'm close to installing
the production system fresh and hope the problem will not come back.

[Bug 493282] [NEW] hplip-data ballooned by 5MB in lucid

2009-12-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

The hplip-data package is 5MB larger in lucid than it was in karmic,
making this package the single top contributor to the fact that the
amd64 alternate CD is currently 22MB oversized.

The change in size is due to a huge increase in the size of all the ppds in the
package; e.g.:

+447513 hp-color_laserjet_cp6015-ps.ppd

[Bug 491483] Re: Since failsave-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used

2009-12-06 Thread Philip Muskovac
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

Using Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.10 on Toshiba Laptop with ATI radeon HD 3650

Today morning I did updated the system with updates available.

Following is the recent log entry in the Software update module in KDE.

  Installed: ureadahead, ureadahead
  Updated: x11-common, sreadahead, xserver-xorg-video-all,
xserver-xorg-input-all, xserver-xorg, xorg, x11-common, sreadahead,
xserver-xorg-video-all, xserver-xorg-input-all, xserver-xorg, xorg

After this update I get Ubuntu running in low-graphics mode error at
the boot time and If I press cancel it boots me upto the normal login
  screen.

How to get rid of the this error?

Also I loose the com positioning (desktop effects), I need to manually
  resume the same. (ALT+SHIFT+F12).

  Please resolve urgently.

  Thanks, Manish

Edit: check this post as well for various experience on this particular issue:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1343261
+
+ Edit: this is caused by failsave-x starting if kdm is used and gdm is disabed
since gdm will fail with exit status !=0 and thus triggering failsave-x. So
this affects all users that use kdm while having gdm installed as well and kdm
starting slower than failsave-x (they both race to start X first).
+ To fix this make sure that failsave-x checks that gdm is enabled before
assuming that X is broken.
