I can confirm this in Jaunty and Karmic (both up to date) on an Acer
Aspire 9420 (non-free: nvidia).

Just an update regarding the new kernel update: I saw the new version (2.31.17)
in the last group of updates in Updates Manager, so I followed the instructions
you suggested to grab the backtrace, but after reboot... nothing!
There were just NO crashes, neither in compiz, nor anything else.

Usually suspend to memory works quite well. But after a suspending a
couple of times usually 10-20 times without problems, suspending will
hang. The screen goes black with only a blinking cursor, the keyboard
won't respond and the fans won't turn off. The only way out is a

This is true, confirmed.
The reason to the erraneous dependency is this.
Package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau_0.0.10~git+20090823+569a17a-0ubuntu1
provides virtual package xserver-xorg-video-5.
On the other hand,
the package xserver-xorg-core_1.7.2-2ubuntu2
conflicts the very same virtual package
I can confirm that the above version of the kernel works, and the keys are
responding properly.

thank you for the explanation Harry. The nv driver don't works for me, i
get only a black screen. Only vesa works and vesa on an 16:9 display
isn't fun. OK just wait for a fix of the problem. :-)
