[Bug 597122] [NEW] Xinetd on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server does not come with IPv6 support enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xinetd The package for xinetd on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server does not come with IPv6 enabled in the compile options, thus resulting in a package without proper IPv6 support. It is possible to fix this by adding a single line to the CFLAGS in the debian/rules-file and do a re-compile; --with-inet6 (possibly with an trailing \ if added before --with-libwrap). I'd very much like to see this fixed even though it's not much of an problem it's so easy to support IPv6 in xinetd it should not be left out. Perhaps it'd also be in place to update the documentation to reflect that adding flags = IPv6 to any xinetd service exposes the service to both IPv4 and IPv6 while leaving it out makes the service continue as an IPv4 only service. ** Affects: xinetd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Xinetd on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server does not come with IPv6 support enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to xinetd in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 322518] Re: No obvious way to prevent ntpdate to be run when interface are brought up
While I agree that the system should honour the chosen settings (so if you say 'manual time' that is really all you get), I would argue that all systems, desktop and server, should ship with a minimum NTP setup. If the load on the Ubuntu time server is of concern, then you could use the minpoll set to 10 (1024s) or similar for it. See: http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/html/clockopt.html#server Those with greater requirements might want to add more servers to ntp.conf and some (like here in my university) may need to change the time server to a local one due to a slightly strange firewall policy. But I don't see why manual time should be preferred for any case other than a complete lack of internet connectivity! -- No obvious way to prevent ntpdate to be run when interface are brought up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 597459] [NEW] support creating raw disk image
Public bug reported: vmbuilder spits out qcow2 images by default. Generally, that's fine and dandy. However, it would be nice to have it create raw images instead. As a quick hack, I was able to do this by changing: --- vm-builder-0.12.3.orig/VMBuilder/plugins/kvm/vm.py +++ vm-builder-0.12.3/VMBuilder/plugins/kvm/vm.py @@ -26,7 +26,7 @@ class KVM(Hypervisor): name = 'KVM' arg = 'kvm' -filetype = 'qcow2' +filetype = 'raw' preferred_storage = VMBuilder.hypervisor.STORAGE_DISK_IMAGE needs_bootloader = True Clearly this isn't correct, but it would be nice if that filetype parameter was an option, and allow the user to input 'raw' the desired file type. Alternatively, if just qcow2 and raw are the only supported types, it would just be a matter of skipping the: img_path = disk.convert(destdir, self.filetype) step in that same file. [Bug 579723] Re: kvm memory ballooning is unusable in Lucid
I also hit this bug after upgrading to lucid, and found an explanation of the root of the problem here: http://www.mail-archive.com/libvirt- us...@redhat.com/msg00328.html. The upstream fix is http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=commit;h=7a90f21655aedc35cf711264498ebb4a1b783c8a. It applies cleanly to the version in Lucid. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 543919 This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. Steps to reproduce *when X is not running, e.g. via `stop gdm`*: 1) plug in the wacom tablet (if it isn't already plugged in) 2) `sudo evtest /dev/input/wacom` 3) scribble on the tablet surface with the stylus and note that events are reported 4) unplug the tablet 4b) note that /dev/input/wacom no longer exists 5) plug the tablet back in 5b) note that /dev/input/wacom exists again 6) `sudo evtest /dev/input/wacom` 7) scribble on the tablet surface with the stylus again Expected result: Events are generated, like the first time the tablet was plugged in. Actual result: No events are generated. The tablet doesn't start working again until the machine has been rebooted. === uname -a: Linux bede 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 22:02:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux apt-cache policy linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic: linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic: Installed: 2.6.32-22.36 Candidate: 2.6.32-22.36 Version table: *** 2.6.32-22.36 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wacom kernel driver ends up in non-working state after first unplug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597123 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 577515] Re: Notification area icons overlap each other, in incorrect order
Now that you remember me of that bug report, yes i've seen it again 2 or 3 times after the update Ross talked about. But with me its only visibility issues, I don't have any problems rearanging the icons, however, i don't do that very often. If that bug hits, I only run killall gnome-panel to restart the panels and everything is alright again. 2010/6/22 Dave M G mar...@autotelic.com: As of June 22, I am experiencing a bug that seems to essentially be the same as this. My applet icons in the top right of my Gnome panel are offered in a new random order with each boot. There are sometimes gaps, sometimes overlaps, and sometimes certain applet icons don't appear at all. Most significantly, the power off icon is sometimes entirely missing or unclickable. I have attached a screen shot showing the missing power. Lastly, I don't know if this is a bug or merely a limitation, but I have some icons, such as Dropbox and Google Desktop, that I want to move out of the furthest right position, but they seem to be unmovable. I want the power off icon to always be the rightmost icon, but that does not seem to be possible. In any case, first I want to ensure that I am getting all my icons to reliably appear and not overlap. Then I would like to be able to control their position. Thank you for your time and efforts. ** Attachment added: No power off icon in gnome panel http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50714671/no_power_off.png -- Notification area icons overlap each other, in incorrect order https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577515 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Notification area icons overlap each other, in incorrect order https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 511844] Re: Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug
Apparently evtest only works for pointer devices while X isn't running. Anyway, with X turned off temporarily I can get useful output from it. Apparently this is a kernel issue, and not an X issue, since I can replicate the bug without X. Steps to reproduce: 1) plug in a tablet (first time since boot) 2) sudo evtest /dev/input/wacom 3) scribble on the tablet and note events received 4) unplug tablet 5) plug tablet back in 6) note that events are no longer received by evtest when you manipulate the tablet Once the tablet is unplugged, the tablet driver remains in a non-working state until reboot. -- Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Hi 2010/6/21 Nigel Atkinson ni...@atkinson.gen.nz I've tried the driver from ppa:glasen/intel-driver on two identical machines with i845 (from Memory - not at them at present). One seems to now work fine and can even run Blender without crashing (which would instantly previously). It has the server kernel (server + gnome- desktop). On the other, a standard 10.04 desktop install (and Parents machine to hard to test on) - I'm not sure if the driver made things more stable as I had to revert due to a problem with pictures, usually photos in Firefox. The pictures would initially show as a black rectangle, but usually show the picture once moused over. Some showed a previous picture slightly offset. It looks to me like the initial texture coping is not working - and having the mouse cursor over that part of the screen forces an update. Here's hoping this info gives someone an 'A ha!' moment. :-) -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug. [Bug 503919] Re: Translations missing in tuxpaint-data Ubuntu 10.04 package
Alkis Georgopoulos wrote on 2010-06-07: tuxpaint-data should contain all the translations: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/all/tuxpaint-data/filelist But it seems that they're stripped in Ubuntu: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/all/tuxpaint-data/filelist Some Ubuntu core developer mentioned that packages aren't automatically rebuilt when they're moved from main to universe. somebody probably just needs to manually reupload it So I guess that's all that's needed, i.e. someone to reupload tuxpaint and maybe get it to lucid-updates or lucid-proposed. Alkis Georgopoulos uploaded tuxpaint to the Greek schools PPA without any changes at all, and all the translations were correctly included. Until it's hopefully reuploaded to lucid-updates, if anyone wants the updated tuxpaint-data deb, (s)he can get it from our PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ts.sch.gr/+archive/ppa/+files/tuxpaint-data_0.9.21-1ubuntu2~ppa0_all.deb -- Translations missing in tuxpaint-data Ubuntu 10.04 package https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/503919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 596515] Re: [powerpc] Text theme used even when logo theme is configured
Ok, here's the critical section of the log: [./plugin.c]create_backend:creating renderer backend for device /dev/dri/card0 [./plugin.c] load_driver:Attempting to load driver '(null)' [./plugin.c] load_driver:drmOpen failed [ply-renderer.c] ply_renderer_open:could not open rendering device for plugin /lib/plymouth/renderers/drm.so [./plugin.c]create_backend:creating renderer backend for device /dev/fb0 [ply-terminal.c] ply_terminal_open:trying to open terminal '/dev/tty7' [ply-terminal.c] ply_terminal_look_up_geometry:looking up terminal text geometry [ply-terminal.c] ply_terminal_look_up_geometry:terminal is now 128x48 text cells [./plugin.c] query_device:Visual was FB_VISUAL_PSEUDOCOLOR, trying to find usable mode. [./plugin.c] query_device:Visual is FB_VISUAL_DIRECTCOLOR; not using graphics [ply-renderer.c] ply_renderer_open:could not query rendering device for plugin /lib/plymouth/renderers/frame-buffer.so So the DRM driver is failing to load; and the fallback to the framebuffer driver also fails (as expected - bug #564471) because there's no truecolor fb available. The question is, why does the drm driver fail to load? Please show the output of: $ readlink /sys/dev/char/$((0x$(stat -c '%t' /dev/dri/card0))):$(stat -c '%T' /dev/dri/card0)/device/driver $ ls -l /sys/dev/char/$((0x$(stat -c '%t' /dev/dri/card0))):$(stat -c '%T' /dev/dri/card0)/device/driver/ This may indeed be an arch-specific bug with the driver not being correctly exposed under sysfs. When I boot with the option you specified although the machine boot up, GDM never came up. Is that expected?
** Affects: xinetd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Xinetd on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server does not come with IPv6 support enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 445849] Re: Highpitched Rattling like Sound with 5.1 Surround Configuration on Karmic Koala
Jerther: Very sorry, I don't think this is a direct result of my patch, but perhaps a side effect of its installation. Are you sure that you cannot start PulseAudio manually? Also you can re-enable the autostart by typing the following, as long as you don't have any other options in that file (you would have deliberately had to put something in there): rm ~/.pulse/client.conf After typing this, try typing killall pulseaudio, and then pulseaudio. If you still cannot use PulseAudio, please reply with the output of the pulseaudio command as you did above, once again. -- Highpitched Rattling like Sound with 5.1 Surround Configuration on Karmic Koala https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
