Re: [Bug 634487] Re: t1.micro instance hangs when installing sun java
On Mon, 25 Oct 2010, Davepar wrote: The workaround is only useful when you're setting up a new instance. It's useless for the instance I already invested a day setting up. It would be a really good idea to put a warning somewhere in the docs for micro instances. Once AWS starts handing out free micro instances by the thousands, the urgency of this bug will increase dramatically. Well, you actually can apply the work around to an existing instance. If the instance is hung, you should be able to stop it (/sbin/halt). The start it in a m1.small , 'apt-get -f install', then stop again, and restart into t1.micro. Additionally, its only an issue with i386 instances, and t1.micro can be either amd64 or i386. amd64 are generally more useful as you have higher powered options than you do with i386. I'm not trying to discount the severity of the bug. It is a real kernel bug that is exposed by java, and could also be exposed by another application. -- t1.micro instance hangs when installing sun java https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634487 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations
sk8erbender: Thank you for the bug confirmation. However, Dylan McCall put it succinctly in comment #202: The source of this problem is really close to the heart of the panel's design. It allows user-defined positions for applets, and these are stored with absolute values (in pixels). No amount of fiddling will change that that is a very poor, inflexible design. Unless a dev corrects me, this bug will not be fixed. It will only go away when a replacement is enacted, or there is a complete redesign of the fundamental panel code architecture and assumptions. Public bug reported: Kubuntu 10.10. Steps to reproduce: Either: 1, Shut down the system from the Application Launcher menu; or 2. command sudo shutdown -h now This causes the system to shut down. [Bug 666452] [NEW] input text ability lost randomly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Randomly my keyboard stops responding (although Caps and Num Lock lights work fine). At that time, nautilus becomes unresponsive too. When I do a mouse over the menu area, Applications, Places and System menus are highlighted but menus are not shown. This bug is somewhat similar to #36734: applications keep working with no ability to input any text. This bug appears after using X for a while, and I could not find a way to be able to type any characters into any program. The only thing I can do is to force X shutdown using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. [Bug 666448] Re: Kubuntu 10.10 hangs during shutdown, but not always
** Description changed: Kubuntu 10.10. Steps to reproduce: Either: 1, Shut down the system from the Application Launcher menu; or 2. command sudo shutdown -h now This causes the system to shut down. However, before it reaches the point where it should turn off the power switch, the shutdown sequence hangs and the system becomes totally unresponsive. The box does not power-off. - This happens approximately once in every ten shutdowns. + This happens approximately nine times out of every ten shutdowns. [Bug 666454] [NEW] Useless progress bar with cryptic text
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: computer-janitor After clicking Do selected tasks, Computer Janitor grays out and pulses the progress bar from left to right continuously for a good portion of the next hour or so while waiting for dpkg to do its thing. Meanwhile, the text says Processing DebPlugin. This is rather cryptic, and, to put bluntly, useless. The progress bar should instead move from left to right gradually, reflecting the removal of the packages as per Synaptic's progress bar. [Bug 660485] Re: Maverick: gforge-db-postgresql does not install
For those as confused as me with gforge-db-postgresql install issues, the file in question is: /var/lib/dpkg/info/gforge-db-postgresql.postinst search for pg_name More specifically open a terminal and go: suodo gedit /var/lib/dpkg/info/gforge-db-postgresql.postinst or your favourite editor around line 101 you should see: # Make sure the database accepts connections from these new users pg_name=postgresql-$pg_version invoke-rc.d ${pg_name} reload change this to: # Make sure the database accepts connections from these new users #pg_name=postgresql-$pg_version #invoke-rc.d ${pg_name} reload invoke-rc.d postgresql reload and save the file then re-install the package: gforge-db-postgresql using your favourite method. Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve MythTV and Ubuntu by opening this ticket. Re: [Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparentlyrandomly on session start in some situations
This bug will not be fixed. In theory, the problem is going to be corrected whenever gnome 3.0 is released, and will have a completely different architecture for panels etc. -Original Message- From: Kevin Hunter hunt...@earlham.edu Sender: boun...@canonical.com Date: Mon, 25 Oct 2010 18:35:01 To: john.toli...@gmail.com Reply-To: Bug 44082 44...@bugs.launchpad.net Subject: [Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations sk8erbender: Thank you for the bug confirmation. In the meantime, there are a number of workarounds in the discussion above, but for now, this paper cut will continue to bleed. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs.
