Serge,
Any more thoughts on this one, it causes me some significant issues so I would
really like to get to the bottom of it if possible.

Could you try booting the system with 'apparmor=0' in the boot arguments? If
it works then, then we know apparmor is somehow still causing this.

[Bug 800597] [NEW] Latest postfix update breaks hash-based aliases.db (potentially other .db files too?)

2011-06-22 Thread d1zzyg
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS
Package: 2.5.1-2ubuntu1.4

Errors were reported during the update:
postfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is already running
[fail]
invoke-rc.d: initscript postfix, action restart failed.
  dpkg: error processing postfix (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of postfix-ldap:
   postfix-ldap depends on postfix (= 2.5.1-2ubuntu1.4); however:
Package postfix is not configured yet.
  dpkg: error processing postfix-ldap (--configure):

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of postfix-pcre:
   postfix-pcre depends on postfix (= 2.5.1-2ubuntu1.4); however:
Package postfix is not configured yet.
  dpkg: error processing postfix-pcre (--configure):
   dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
  Processing triggers for libc6 ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   postfix
   postfix-ldap
   postfix-pcre

Whenever postfix is restarted, the following errors are shown in
/var/log/mail.err:
Jun 22 09:50:04 colossus postfix/local[30997]: fatal: open database
/etc/mail/aliases.db: Invalid argument

The *original* version of the aliases.db file gives (file
/etc/postfix/aliases.db):
/etc/postfix/aliases.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 8, native byte-order)
... whereas *after* the update it shows version 9.

TEMPORARY FIX: Changing the default_database_type to btree fixes
aliases.db, kills the mail.errors and allows postfix to run normally.

you have is a postfix configuration problem unrelated to the package

[Bug 800656] [NEW] Update Manager can not proceed if there is a lock on /etc

2011-06-22 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Public bug reported:

Somehow, there was a bzr lock on /etc when Update Manager did its daily
update of my Natty machine today. Etckeeper was doing a commit before
installing the newly downloaded packages.

I had to open a terminal, cd to /etc, and run sudo bzr break-lock to
allow Update Manager to proceed.

I only figured this out because of an error message mentioning bzr and
then expanding the terminal view in Update Manager to see it repeatedly
attempting to commit but not being allowed.

Re: [Bug 787091] Re: Unable to use USB device in KVM quest

2011-06-22 Thread Royston Carter
Serge,
Unfortunately I have only one vm capable host which is my main machine,
firewall, PBS, family desktop etc. It is an AMD Phenom II, the only other kit I
have is not 64bit and has no virtualisation capabilities. I am reluctant
therefore to risk this unless there in no other way forward.

  name=/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:05.0/:02:00.0/usb8/devnum

I am now left with messages in the VM log file as follows which I
  cannot find a solution for:

  char device redirected to /dev/pts/5
usb_create: no bus specified, using usb.0 for usb-host
  husb: open device 1.4

  husb: open device 1.4

This is a fairly basic requirement and hopefully a solution already exists.

Serge,
I would add that the system runs on software raid with LVM2 and it
would seem that simply taking a full backup and restoring after trying
alternative Kernel. is also non-trivial.

[Bug 800543] [NEW] Installing zabbix-frontend-php fails in noninteractive mode

2011-06-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

## Issue

* When installing zabbix-frontend-php in noninteractive mode the install
fails to determine the database type

## Environment

* Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid) x86_64

* zabbix-frontend-php  zabbix-server-mysql 1:1.8.1-1ubuntu1

* Using preseeding and Puppet (which uses apt in noninteractive mode,
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive)

## Diagnostic Steps

1. Install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

2. Install mysql-server

3. Preseed the zabbix-frontend-php zabbix-server-mysql packages

4. Install the zabbix packages via puppet or 'sudo
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install zabbix-server-mysql
zabbix-frontend-php'

5. See the installation fail:

Setting up zabbix-frontend-php (1:1.8.1-1ubuntu1) ...
sanity check failed for dbc_dbtype.
error encountered :
dbconfig-common can not determine the database type.
dbconfig-common: zabbix-frontend-php configure: aborted.
dbconfig-common: flushing administrative password
dpkg: error processing zabbix-frontend-php (--configure):

Processing triggers for libc-bin ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
Errors were encountered while processing:
 zabbix-frontend-php
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

## Additional Information

The installation uses dbconfig-common (dbconfig-common_1.8.44 in Lucid)
which fails much more gracefully when using Maverick (dbconfig-
common_1.8.46)

This was also mentioned on Puppet-users some time ago:
http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users/browse_thread/thread/205119dd8336edd9?tvc=2fwc=1

[Bug 800543] Re: Installing zabbix-frontend-php fails in noninteractive mode

2011-06-22 Thread Tom Ellis
Looks like this actually a dbconfig issue, I added the package from
Maverick (dbconfig-common_1.8.46) and it seems to be fixed.

I'll work out which patch fixed it and perhaps we can get it into an
update for Lucid.

[Bug 800817] [NEW] Changing VNET_SUBNET in eucalyptus.conf has no effect

2011-06-22 Thread Sasa Vilic
Public bug reported:

Uncommenting and changing VNET_SUBNET in eucalyptus.conf has no effect. Even
after clean restart of eucalyptus-cloud and eucalyptus-cc,
the virtuall Machines still get IP from old subnet 172.19.0.0. The only way to
change this is to edit eucalyptus.local.conf.

Since eucalyptus.local.conf should not be changed directly, there is no
ordinary way to change subnet used in cloud systems.

[Bug 800824] [NEW] cloud-init-nonet times out in lxc

2011-06-22 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

running an ubuntu cloud image under lxc will time out on network.

There has been lots of discussion on this, most recently in IRC on ubuntu-cloud
[1].
From memory, this is due to virtual-filesystems coming up after mounted=/ on
lxc. Because of that udev does not start, which means the network device
event never occurs which would bring up the network. The result is that the
instance boots, but times out for 70 seconds, and cloud-init doesn't do
anything.

[Bug 799630] Re: package drbd8-source 2:8.3.7-1ubuntu2.1 failed to install/upgrade: drbd8 kernel module failed to build

2011-06-22 Thread Adam Gandelman
DRBD is included in the mainline kernel as of 2.6.33, this failure is
likely due to the fact the module is being built against a kernel that
already includes DRBD.

Edward- Without installing drbd8-source, does 'modprobe drbd' succeed?
If so, you no longer need the drbd8-source package to be built and
installed and only need the userspace utilities. The drbd8-utils should
work for you, but its better to have a userspace version that matches
the kernel components or you'll see noisy errors and may run into
unsupported features.

Thanks for the bug report.

Looking at the dkms log, it mentions that the kernel source is:

Please can you describe the setup, as this seems to be a non-standard

Hi Daviey, Thanks for the tips.

I just tested the fix in the bug you linked but it doesn't work, but the
fix from debbug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=542381
does. Relinking to that one.

[Bug 800543] Re: Installing zabbix-frontend-php fails in noninteractive mode

2011-06-22 Thread Tom Ellis
I pulled the patch from the upstream bug:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=dbconfig-common/dbconfig-common.git;a=commitdiff_plain;h=3a94f160d74f03296652fccdb8ea12beecd525fa

I've created a debdiff and tested it and this resolves the problem for
me.

@Daviey: Debdiff is attached, can you please sponsor it for Lucid for
me?

Thanks!

In addition to Loic's patch to get editmoin to work with wiki.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu 11.04, i386: Not fixed!

WORKARROUND from CLI:

1) find ALSA control for HEADPHONE SENSE (it is 26 at NC4200, 32 at

nc4200$ amixer controls | grep -i sense
numid=26,iface=MIXER,name='Headphone Jack Sense'
numid=27,iface=MIXER,name='Line Jack Sense'

2) Activate 'Headphone Jack Sense':

nc4200$ amixer cset numid=26 on
numid=26,iface=MIXER,name='Headphone Jack Sense'
  ; type=BOOLEAN,access=rw--,values=1
  : values=on

3) Store ALSA configuration (to file/var/lib/alsa/asound.state):

nc4200$ sudo alsactl store

And the problem is fixed! Not difficult but I was searching this trick

[Bug 680569] Re: Evolution randomly hangs when pressing Send button

2011-06-22 Thread TragicWarrior
It is fixed in 11.04... however it seems quite frustrating to have to
wait for an entirely new release to get a fix.

[Bug 680972] Re: e-calendar-factory pegs cpu for a while on access to GroupWise calendar

2011-06-22 Thread Dan Connolly
No, I don't see this particular problem any longer with Natty.

I still see other performance problems with evolution calendar; I hope
to report them separately, once I narrow them down to reproducible bugs.

[Bug 623438] Re: Font size not correct in merged sandvich PDF

2011-06-22 Thread Emmanuel Pirsch
I'm having similar issue. I can confirm that it is not related to Cuneiform.
I'm using ocropus (ocroscript recognize) (which uses Tesseract) and I have
check the resulting .html (hocr) which seems valid and pixel perfect.

However, hocr2pdf misalign the text with their related bounding boxes. I've
tried ocroscript recognize with and without the --charboxes options and the
result is always wrong (the text has an offset on the Y axis).

This is with exactimage 0.8.1-3build1 on Ubuntu Natty.

[Bug 609575] Re: gdm doesn't unmount crypted directories

2011-06-22 Thread Shawn Smout
I have had this problem consistently through several versions of ubuntu,
including natty. In addition to killing processes, I've tried to use
the logout tag's attributes with various values in
/etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml, none of which ever results in the
filesystem getting unmounted.

If someone can suggest what to try, I'd be glad to help diagnose this
problem.

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-06-22 Thread Chase Douglas
I believe I found the cause of this regression. The wacom tablet
sometimes sends button presses on one of the X devices that does not
emit (or has not emitted yet) traditional X and Y coordinates. This
confuses the server due to masked valuators and coordinate
transformation. The fix is to not generate and propagate any coordinate
changes if the incoming event does not have any coordinate changes.

Please test out the xserver-xorg-core package in ppa:utouch-
team/unstable after it has built. The package version should be
1.10.2-1ubuntu1.2~utouch1.

Thanks!

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or
feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an
issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May
you please test with that version and comment back if you're still
having or not the issue? Please have a look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that
version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.
