I have this problem on my MSi Wind U100 after upgrading yesterday.
I have tried both unity --reset and the description from #39. None did work and
ended up with same result where the hole desktop environment disapered and
would not return. (Chrome and all other applications went into black)

After rebooting IEC958 is muted, but sound does not work.

edubuntu beta2 usb live 20120326 - I created 2 other user besides the
edubuntu default one: It takes about 40 seconds to logout from edubuntu
and login in to another user and about 30 seconds to logout from the
other user to another one. After a few user switching the process
I've confirmed this, I can't see how it could affect the menus. Also,
looking at the diff between 0.2.15 and 0.2.16 there is very little
change that isn't gtk3 specific.

No, I am not able to switch to another tty. The system shows no reaction
to keyboard inputs. I tried to shut down the system with SysRq-Keys

OK have tested with mainline kernel 3.3.0-999-generic today.
Looks like the same problem. I didnt see the first panic (but know it
did becuase it restarted).
In the next test I booted into single user mode without any kernel
options and it locked up without even reporting a panic, however it did
