[Bug 995411] [NEW] Ubunbtu 12.04 unable to install

2012-05-06 Thread redmike
Public bug reported:

Have installed a Dell flat screen monitor. Claims to be running at 640x480 but
monitor displays only a quarter tile of the desktop ie about 3500 dots
resolution
How do you install the software and is the no entry sign from system update
anything to do with it
regards Mike

Actually downloading 12.04 didn't actually help was over-optimistic after
having backed up my personal data..
On third attempt after 4 hours downloaded the iso file. whilst i can get one of
the three copies of this that i made to launch a desktop, am totally unable to
install the software for various reasons including a fault in the error
reporting module!

Could you please revert back to 11.10 version of X.org and ship it to
12.04 users as simple things like mouse wheel not working is
unacceptable.

[Bug 995418] [NEW] LO calc creates malformed links to external Excel-sheets

2012-05-06 Thread HarzG
Public bug reported:

libreoffice:
  Installed: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1~lucid1
  Candidate: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1~lucid1
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1~lucid1 0
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

In LibreOffice Calc 3.5.3-0ubuntu1~lucid1 (PPA) and 3.5.2-6 (Debian sid
unstable)
there are problems with malformed links to external Excel-sheets.
It's a serious problem imho in all 3.5.x-Linux-versions of Calc.
Linux-users with any 3.5.x-version can't cooperate at the office with MS Office
users if they use links to external Excel-sheets.
[also reported there https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48463
2012-04-09 05:17 PDT]

Make a source.xls and a merged.xls.
Type in source.xls
[A1]number
[A2]A
[A3]B
[B1]value
[B2]11
[B3]22
Type in merged.xls
[A1]number
[A2]A
[A3]B
[B1]value
[B2]252-2ubuntu1
[B3]45
Make in merged.xls
[C1]diff
[C2]=B2-'file:///tmp/source.xls'#$sheet1.B2
[C3]=B3-'file:///tmp/source.xls'#$sheet1.B3

The sheet merged.xls shows now in [C2]14 and [C3]23.

If you close merged.xls and reopen it, you get a message … contains links …
should they be updated? and an error.
=B3-'file:///tmp/tmp/source.xls/'#$sheet1.B2

The path-name was saved (or reloaded) wrong into [C2] and [C3].
As LO-users will/must cooperate with MSO-users, they can't use LibreOffice 3.5
because the malformed links to external sheets.
To let all switch to ods-sheets is not an option at the office.

There is no work-around atm with other formats like xlsx.

I tested in 3.4.4 links to other sheets - works fine there (tested with
Oneiric).
(I heard also about normal behaviour in Debian wheezy testing LibreOffice calc
1:3.4.6-2.)

Can we go back to the behaviour of 3.4.x to make/save/reload links to
external Excel sheets?

[Bug 995218] Re: 1180:0822 SD card not detected on insertion

2012-05-06 Thread Anton
Just booted into mainline. Still no volume mounted on the desktop, but on
insertion of the SD card, I do see the following in both syslog and kern.log:
May 6 12:23:02 note-feenstra kernel: [ 421.590414] sdhci-pci :86:09.1:
Will use DMA mode even though HW doesn't fully claim to support it.
So, something is coming through to the kernel at least.

[Bug 942106] Re: mdadm-functions missing udevadm settle (?)

2012-05-06 Thread Jean-Philippe Guérard
I was able to test this patch using the following method: I added a
printed line before and after the wait_for_udev command. I then
rebooted a number of times and verified that the first line appeared
from time to time before all MD device were assembled and that the last
line always appeared after all MD device were assembled.

[Bug 995425] [NEW] Copy disc - Wrong size

2012-05-06 Thread RobinJ
Public bug reported:

Test case:
1. Insert a CD in your CD drive with 15MB of content.
2. Copy image - Image file - ISO
3. After the copying finished, eject the CD without closing Brasero.
4. Insert the next CD (contents around 560MB in my case).
5. Copy image - Image file - ISO
6. At first it still showed the title and size of the first CD. I cancelled it,
mounted the CD with Nautilus, and repeated step 5. This time it showed the
correct title, but not the correct size (still 15MB).
7. Start copying.
8. When it's finished, go to the location where the ISO file was saved.
Observe; It's a 15MB ISO with only half-written files, while the CD's contents
where around 560MB.
9. Restart Brasero, and repeat step 5. This time it reports the correct title
and size. The created image is the correct size, but when you extract it, the
content is onlt 150MB and the files are corrupted/half-written.

[Bug 877627] Re: Software Center is not opening on 11.10 after update from 11.04

2012-05-06 Thread MichaelE
I found a work-around but am not sure which side-effects this may have.
Obvoiusly the following files were corrupted during upgrade to 10.10:

/var/lib/apt-xapian-index/cataloged_times.p
/var/lib/apt-xapian-index/values

cataloged_times.p had just binary data and values looked more like a
README file. After I deleted both files, I was able to start

root@montreal:/var/lib/apt-xapian-index# update-apt-xapian-index -v

which rebuild both files. Software-center now also works again.

cataloged_times.p contains now text information and values actually
looks like a data-base. Not sure what caused the corruptions during
upgrade to 10.10, but obviously it happened to others as well.

[Bug 284661] Re: php5 crashed with SIGSEGV in execute()

2012-05-06 Thread Paul Gevers
Sorry for not replying for so long (it seems nobody was caring for cacti
in Ubuntu).

The problem looks like a inifinite loop. To debug further it would be
good if we had the cacti logs that can be found in /var/log/cacti. I
don't assume you still have them from around the time of the crash.

Please be aware that depending on what you try to monitor with cacti,
there might be sensitive data in those logs.

Re: [Bug 995227] [NEW] citadel fails to start after upgrade to 8.05-3

2012-05-06 Thread Tobias
turns out:

* upgrade to 8.05-3 is not the reason,
* the reason for the non-starter is the ownership of
/var/lib/citadel/data/citadel.config and/or the user that runs citadel
in 8.05

Using the 8.05* packages, citadel is run by root, but the upgrade script
converts the db files to belong to the citadel user, which is why
citadel does not start. If my installation is correct, this is still a bug.

I'm still checking how it is on a wheezy system when you install citadel
from scratch. Is it supposed to be run by root or citadel?

[Bug 980017] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000004

2012-05-06 Thread beccatoria
Awesome - thank you VERY much, I'm happy to report that adding the xorg-
edgers repository has largely solved my issues.

For information, I am still getting the error message a few minutes
after startup most of the time (a few times it has not happened). And
if I try to report it it seems to freak out and spawn infinite errors.
But if I cancel reporting it and ignore it, then there's no further
issue, I receive no further error notifications, and Unity + Compiz seem
to be working fine together. When changing some settings in the Compiz
Manager and on a few other occasions, it seems as though Compiz has
rebooted itself (I briefly get a blank desktop with nothing but my
wallpaper before everything reappears), but this has only happened to me
on once outside of actively fiddling with the Compiz settings and every
time it's recovered in 2 - 3 seconds rather than crashing and dying, or
providing a corrupted display as it was previously.

It's very useable now as long as I don't try to report that initial
error. *gigantic thumbs up*

Thanks again for being so helpful, Ben!

[Bug 773564] Re: compiz occasionally hangs with 100% cpu usage (inotify plugin infinite loop)

2012-05-06 Thread Raceman
I have this problem since last week, 64Bit Ubuntu 11.10. I don't know where it
came from, but Ubuntu worked without this problem for more then one year.
compiz --replace etc is not working for me. Everytime I used my mouse or
keyboard within compiz , the load of the compiz process is 100%
After the bug happened and nothing of the suggestions helped I updated Ubuntu
to 12.04 LTS by command line, but after that the problem still exists.

Later this week I expect to receive a SSD drive, after that I am going
to install 12.04 from scratch on that new drive, and made a copy of my
files on the current HDD. If I can help with further investigation of
the problem before I receive my SSD, please let me know.

[Bug 991167] Re: No text in settings or options menus

2012-05-06 Thread flightdown
I got the same problem on an Ubuntu 12.04 64bit installation. Running
the fresh installation of libreoffice I was not able to see any menu
entry (neither settings nor menus), after purge and reinstall the LO
installation, I'm able to see some entries but the UI is still unusable.

I did try using both: unity and gnome-shell getting the same problem.

I got another machine running precise pangolin 32bit installation where
I'm not getting any problem.

Both the installation 64 and 32 bit are fresh no upgrade from previous
release.

Re: [Bug 991179] Re: 7.0.24 computation error bug

2012-05-06 Thread Steffen Möller
And I just read Dave's reply that this would be just fine, indeed.
If it is not the order of lines, then my hunch is that it is the size of the
buffer that I had increased, which may create larger (too large) files for the
client to read.

I will split that patch in two halves - buffer and reorder - so we can
test it all more easily. But I would do so for 7.0.28 and ... maybe even
only through upstream and not within Debian/Ubuntu.

Hi Steffen et all, I'm building I think the latest build, I have enabled
almos every patch but not app_ipc_uninitialised.patch so based on
Steffen comment we will find the patch that causes this problem :)

[Bug 949641] Re: Installing both fglrx and fglrx-updates results in: error exit status 1 -/etc/init.d/atieventsd exists during rc.d purge

2012-05-06 Thread DINAMIK
On a freshly installed system I tried installing fglrx-updates and got a
instalation failed message in jockey, but the drivers regardless seem
to be working alright. Don't know if this is the same issue or not, but
it would be nice to be fixed.

same for me on ubuntu precise 64bits. catalyst 12.4 by jockey says that
an error has ocurred but everything seems to be ok after restart x

[Bug 995227] citadel privileges error or citadel postinst script buggy

2012-05-06 Thread Tobias
In my new debian/wheezy installation, after installing citadel-server,
it runs as user root, while 7.x in debian/squeeze runs as citadel
(one of the processes also as root).

Now, I checked the postinst script in 8.05:

chown -R citadel:citadel /var/lib/citadel

is the culprit.
Either citadel is supposed to run as citadel not as root. Then the
line is ok, but I don't see why the citadel-server process does not drop
privileges to citadel.

Or citadel is supposed to run as root, then the postinst script is not
ok and will break the installation on the next upgrade/configure call.
