[Bug 728017] Re: xwindows over ssh causes instability

2013-04-14 Thread Chauncellor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

[Bug 1159748] Re: Ramdom apache2 crash in Ubuntu 12.04 (libpthread-2.15.so)

2013-04-14 Thread Dave Pooser
I am seeing the same behavior on my system. Reproduceable every time I
do /etc/init.d/apache2 reload. System in question is a VM running under
VMware ESXi, so I could provide developers with a copy of the VM if they
can't reproduce it themselves (but it's not a small file).

Apache is serving from three directories, using a Geotrust wildcard SSL
cert: SVN over HTTPS, RequestTracker 4.0.10 (built from source), and a
DokuWiki wiki. Version is 2.2.22 (Ubuntu) built 2013-03-08

I'll be glad to provide core dumps as needed, or a copy of the VM.

[Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers

2013-04-14 Thread akI
I can confirm this on 12.04 LTS and also on 12.10 with a very fresh
install of ubuntu.

Its absolutely regardless which nvidia driver i activate (current,
current-updates, experimental) the desktop freezes randomly with ativated
nvidia driver.
Sometimes the system freezes complete, desktop, mouse and keyboard are stocked.
Sometimes only the keyboard and desktop freezes. and i can move the cursor but
are not able to make the dekstop response do any kind of mouse interacting.

If i change back to NV driver the system runs stable.

Also this only happens the very first boot on the day. If i restart my system i
can run it for hours without any problem.
For now i have deactivated the nvidia drivers, hopefully someone can fix this.

I also can confirm (but im not sure) that this must have to do with
unity as im running a dualboot system with 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu Studio
12.10. On Ubuntu Studio which uses XFCE the system runs stable with the
latest nvidia driver activated.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-04-14 Thread Tapio Ryhänen
Hi Everyone,

I'm still having this issue (2012-12-21 comment 609). Very annoying!
Freezes seem to be completely random, at the best my laptop has been
running fine longer than month, but for example during the past two
weeks, maybe ten freezes.

Yes, mouse not moving, keyboard not responding, no ssh, Ctrl+Alt+F1 not
working, no tty.. Closing lid does not suspend. The only option is to
power off the computer from the power button and start over.

The same laptop also has W7 and RHEL6 installed, they run without
problems..

Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS with the latest updates. Please, see the lspci-info
attached for the details. No proprietary drivers, Intel Ivy Bridge.

The bug #1154006 similar.. Fix appreciated, please.!

[Bug 1070677] Re: Xorg fails to start because of Radeon Issue [(EE) RADEON(0): [drm] failed to set drm interface version]

2013-04-14 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
Thanks!

With your recommendation I had the following idea:

Ctl+Alt+F1

login

sudo start ligthdm

Ctl+Alt+F1

logout

Ctl+Alt+F7

It works. I did'nt need to modify grub. And the trick is only necessary
when xorg fails at startup.

I just want to say about my expirience here. Maybe it adds some useful details
to understanding what's going on.
Ubuntu = 12.04 amd64
kernel = 3.5.0-22-generic.
rootfs = btrfs
Sometimes I was able to see that / is busy before halt. Especially when my
torrent client is seeding/leeching much torrents from/to another partition on
another USB drive, and before shutdown I don't stop torrents.
Because I have no time to debug this issue. I just installed kernel from
http://pf.natalenko.name/ with BFS shedulers from Con Kolivas.
And bug disappears like a charm.
So. My point is: This issue is more like kernel issue, not init scripts. And
maybe it is related to old good

I don't know all the specifics but this bug occurs when trying to parse

renaming) /etc/apt/trusted.gpg. I don't know the full ramifications are
for doing this but one side effect is getting can't verify warnings
when apt-get updating.

This has affected me since Ubuntu 12.10 using side reveal. Currently

have not tested using corner reveal. Now it may take 30-40 attempts to

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  python3 : Depends: python3-minimal (= 3.2.3-5ubuntu1) but 3.2.3-5ubuntu1.1

  python3-dev : Depends: python3 (= 3.2.3-5ubuntu1.1) but 3.2.3-5ubuntu1 is to
 be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify
 a solution).

It looks like the '=' should be '='.

The dependencies are correct. Why is python3 being installed at a
lesser version than the others?

 If I run 'apt-get -f install', it
tries to uninstall a very large number of packages.

As suggested in parenthesis, you can possibly bypass whatever is the
problem by running the original command and appending
“python3=3.2.3-5ubuntu1.1”.

[Bug 1168829] [NEW] 'Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.5.0-27-generic (x86_64)'

2013-04-14 Thread Ads20000
Public bug reported:

Ran the command 'sudo apt-get install virtualbox' to install VirtualBox.
I expected this to install VirtualBox without errors and I would be able
to install VMs straight away.

What it actually did was start up Apport and come up with some errors in
Terminal while installing (seems to have installed though)...

When I run 'sudo virtualbox' in Terminal, it says the following:
Please install the virtualbox-ose-dkms package and the appropriate
  headers, most likely linux-headers-generic.

You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.

'linux-headers-generic' is apparently up-to-date and I installed

[Bug 1073433] Re: Ext4 corruption associated with shutdown of Ubuntu 12.10

2013-04-14 Thread Max
I have broken the link to duplication of bug #1124803
NetworkManager doesn't respond to SIGTERM in daemon mode.
This bug have been reported by Ernie and in the discussion
of bug #1124803 he insists that his bug has not fixed.

Network manager 0.9.6.0 in 12.10 quantal is really affected
by that bug, and if the patch mentioned there is applied
system shuts down correctly. On 'stop network-manager'
dhclient is stopped as well.

If network-manager 0.9.8.0 from Raring is installed to
12.10 Quantal then dhclient for some reason (unclear for me)
does not open lease file in /var/lib/NetworkManager
so root filesystem can be cleanly remounted readonly.

In Raring network-manager 0.9.8.0 opens a lease file
in /var/lib/NetworkManager, but after 'stop network-manager'
dhclient (intentionally?) remains alive.
The PID of dhclient is mentioned in /run/sendsigs.omit.d/
so, if I guess correctly, dhclient is not stopped during
shutdown and /etc/init.d/umountroot can not remount
/ readonly due to the lease file open for writing.

Any volunteers to debug further?

[Bug 771875] Re: Compiz Screenshot renders blue overlay on screenshots

2013-04-14 Thread MC Return
I am working on a solution for this problem, so that folks who want to
use the screenshot plugin without having to turn off framebuffer object,
will get the ability to do so.

Attached is a sneak preview of the new CCSM settings coming to screenshot :)
Note that this is WIP and might look slightly different until landing...

Please see the attachment, it is pretty self-explanatory.

** Attachment added: Screenshot options to select color and opacity of
selection box and outline

[Bug 1124803] Re: NetworkManager doesn't respond to SIGTERM in daemon mode

2013-04-14 Thread Max
Ernie, you have faced another bug in NetworkManager.
The comments are in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1073433/comments/102
so you should post comments there
or someone should open a dedicated bug.
I have removed duplication link.

In 12.10 Quantal NetworkManager 0.9.8.0 does not open
a lease file in /var/lib/NetworkManager so I do not
think that version from Raring is desired in Quantal.

I would like to see in 12.10 Quantal patched
network-manager 0.9.6.0.
It stops dhclient on 'stop network-manager'

To Russell: I built patched network-manager myself.

[Bug 1131636] Re: After QtWebkit update Skype is not launching

2013-04-14 Thread frenchy82
Could it be a problem of non sse2 proc (maybe i'm totally wrong, sorry for that)
Reading this article
http://blogs.kde.org/2013/03/15/qtwebkit-230-out

If you are packaging to x86, you might also want to add --no-force-
sse2 since the library would otherwise default to using SSE2 math...

If it's an old card installing version 173 from Nvidia may help to stabilize
your system. Performance is not great though, but it helps with my 12.10

Subject: [Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers

[Bug 1157878] Re: No X with nvidia after upgrade from 3.2.0-38 to 3.2.0-39

2013-04-14 Thread Steven Kreuvf Koenig
I found the following solution to this problem:
* BIOS - PCI / Plug and Play Setup
 * Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA: Yes (before: No)

Kernels 3.2.0-39, 3.2.0-40, 3.5.0-26 work without problems. Kernel
3.9.0-030900rc3 fails again in uvesafb, so I do not see anything during booting:
kernel: [2.438172] uvesafb: Getting VBE info block failed (eax=0x4f00,
err=0)
kernel: [2.438222] uvesafb: vbe_init() failed with -22
kernel: [2.438254] uvesafb: probe of uvesafb.0 failed with error -22

The Xorg.log is attached.

Some more information regarding my system:
* Mainboard: Elitegroup K7S5A
* BIOS: AMIBIOS 1.21.06
* Graphics card: GeForce FX 5200 in an AGP slot

While I can use the latest kernel without problems again, it would
probably still be interesting to find out the reason why I have to
change a BIOS setting with kernels younger than 3.2.0-38.

** Attachment added: Xorg.log when booting 3.9.0-rc3 with 'Allocate IRQ to PCI
VGA' set to 'Yes'

[Bug 1168839] [NEW] Please update Cairo-Dock to the latest stable version (3.2.1 - bug-fix)

2013-04-14 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Public bug reported:

Hello,

A new stable version is now available. This is a bug-fix version.

Here is the detailed changelog:

- Dialogues:
  - Fixed a small bug with the default icon
  - Force taking the focus when the dialogue has an user widget, since
some WM prevent focus steal
- Gnome-Shell: the dash was hidden all the time
- GUI:
  - Docks list: only list main docks and subdocks and not launchers and
applications with subdocks (when there are windows with the same
class and if these icons are regrouped into a subdock)
  - Menu and GUI: Move to another dock: if it s a container: Do not add
subdocks that are contained in this container (to avoid loop:
subdock1-subdock2-subdock1)
  - Simple: Plugins: Help applet was not listed
  - Simple: Config: force displaying the config widget (the config panel
was empty with some older versions of GTK)
- Help applet:
  - This applet didn t have any preview icon file
- Icon:
  - Label: If we don t want to show label, keep info about the font: it
can be used by other applets (e.g. Clock)
  - Windows thumbnails: fixed a small bug that made the thumbnail
unavailable the first time the window is minimized
- Init Themes: deactivate the option Show Windows Thumbnail in the
  current theme.
  - This option can provoke annoying bugs with other applications the
desktop (e.g. Gedit or Nautilus displayed corrupted icons when using
a smooth scroll)
  - It seems this bug is due to the video drivers and it s fixed with
the latest stable version of these drivers (but which is not
available with most distributions)
  - Note: It s still possible to re-enable this option from the config
panel
- Taskbar: Fixed a possible crash in a convoluted scenario (if there are
a few untitled windows with the same empty class)
- X11:
  - Fixed a crash when using Xinerama with multi-monitors
- Translations: Imported translations files from Launchpad

[Bug 1168843] [NEW] adobe-flashplugin 11.2.202.280 doesn't work with Amazon streaming video

2013-04-14 Thread Anita
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to adobe-flashplugin 11.2.202.280 Amazon Prime streaming
video player opens with notice that flashplayer or browser needs to be
updated.

I placed a copy of libflashplugin.so version 11.2.202.275 (found at

~/.mozilla/plugins and Chromium browser finds and uses this plugin.

[Bug 1167656] Re: Ubuntu GUI hangs often

2013-04-14 Thread Michael Murphy
I don't want to restart either because I run a lot of local and remote
x264 encoding in different tty sessions. Killing lightdm and restarting
it is the only way to unhang the GUI. I moved my critical batch encoding
sessions to different tty sessions in case the GUI hangs and I need to
restart lightdm, so it wouldn't harm them if it crashes.

[Bug 1167656] Re: Ubuntu GUI hangs often

2013-04-14 Thread Michael Murphy
The problem is that I simply don't know. It hangs quite often, in
various situations. Launching steam after steam crashes, opening a web
link inside steam, playing a video in smplayer, playing a video in VLC,
switching through playlist in either, clementine. Anything that invokes
launching a window can potentially cause the hang.

[Bug 1168852] [NEW] Support of specific Atheros 3012 device for precise kernel

2013-04-14 Thread Sergey
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I'm using an Acer Aspire S3 laptop with Atheros 3012 bluetooth module.
The problem is that I cannot detect nor pair to any bluetooth device.
The list of detected bluetooth devices always remains empty.

Further inspection revealed that it is a well-known problem that can be
solved by adding the proper device id to the following two files:

/drivers/bluetooth/btusb.c
/drivers/bluetooth/ath3k.c

I've downloaded the current precise kernel source from the git
repository and looked at these two files. There are a total of 8
different Atheros AR3012 device ids supported , however my particular
device id (0x04ca 0x3004) was not mentioned. The id is exactly (0x04ca
0x3004) and not the (apparently more popular) (0x04ca 0x3005) and
(0x0cf3 0x3004) which are present in these lists.

I propose fixing this problem by adding my device id into these two
files.

Here's the output of usb-devices command:

[Bug 1168851] [NEW] Display suddenly became too dark

2013-04-14 Thread Enrico Rosina
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm running foobillard on Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise). On april 2013 there
was an update of the kernel to 3.2.0-40-generic.

Since then, it's hardly possible to see the table, the side of the
carpet became too dark to see the table details. There is only the
central spot of the table which kept the original colors. see the image.

With the previous kernel there was no such problem.

Many thanks for any action you could take to solve this problem. It's a
nice game which is worth a try.

Enrico
