Andrew, in the current Qt5 you'll have no icons at all unless you have
gnome-icon-theme-full installed.
Another broken thing is support for powerpc and arm64, that should be
fixed in Qt 5.2. Anyway, I heard the new Qt should land before 2014.

Unfortunately, that didn't work.
However, I don't think this is a bug in Firefox anymore. The same thing
happens with the Opera browser and with Chromium. So I guess it's
probably either a problem in flashplugin-installer or a problem
specifically on their site.

Actually, the site behaves the same way for me on FF. It's possible that
the site is checking for a more recent version of Flash than what Adobe
offers for non-Chrome browsers (11.2.x).
Try Google Chrome, as it uses a special built-in version of Flash (=
11.8.x).

Google Chrome works. Turns out the site had an update and it happened to
come right after I updated Firefox by coincedence.
I'm betting that you're right about the flash-checking issue.

sudo dd if=custom-backup.iso of=/dev/sdb ibs=10M obs=20M workaround
created a non-bootable USB image.
I tried unetbootin tool to create a USB boot image and the computer
started booting from the USB key but the bootup process never finished.

I will try updating the BIOS and report back after that.
Note that the overheating was not occurring with the same BIOS under
10.10 up until a couple of weeks ago when I upgraded to 12.04.

I had symlinked /var/www/wordpress to a folder in my home directory.
After unlinking the link with unlink command, then mkdir
/var/www/wordpress, nautilus still shows the wordpress directory having
all the contents of my directory, though ls shows the new directory is
empty.
