Re: [Bug 1402331] Re: System will periodically lockup with [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle
On Thu, 2015-01-15 at 14:23 +, johnnys wrote: Hi Chris, I just came back to bring bad news: My machine just crashed again (running with the newly flashed BIOS A16). I assume you got the copy process right (probably also using the 'dd' command). Otherwise you wouldn't have command.com kernel.sys and the bios update file 0780-A15.exe' on it). Next step would be to boot into this newly created FreeDOS environment, i.e.: - shutdown the PC - insert the thumb drive - be sure that your system has boot to USB enabled otherwise hit F12 (or so) to select device to boot from - set the current date (FreeDOS will prompt you) - start the BIOS update by typing 0780-A15.exe - follow the steps on screen... - reboot cheers, John Thanks John, been so long since I ran a DOS program I forgot how to execute a file :( had to Google it. Would have been ok if I'd made the first character an 'O' instead of putting a '0' in. Finally got it right though. Since I already had the A15 update I installed that one. That's screwed up that you already had a lockup, check comment #4 where it was suggested that I update the BIOS. Since both of us have already done that you may want to go to the bug report and leave a comment that 'well that didn't work, what next' but I guess be nicer. I'm also working on this bug report - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75394 you may want to get involved there also. I'm going to make a note of when I upgraded the BIOS and follow up with comments on both bugs when (note I didn't say if) it locks up/crashes again. I'd probably run 'sudo lshw' and attach the output to you comment to show that you have in fact updated the BIOS that's what I'm going to do and since I'm on A15 and you're on A16 and just had a lockup that should tell them something. This is getting absurd, something needs to be done. If you notice the first comment in the link above you'll see that person is running 'Arch Linux' and a completely different type of hardware so this bug is affecting a lot of systems. I've already upgraded to a 3.14* kernel from a Ubuntu PPA which did not help so I went back to the 3.13* version. Hopefully someone, someday will get this fixed. [Bug 1411330] [NEW] vmlinuz permissions
Public bug reported: I use NFS root-boot for our department systems. Every time I upgrade, if it includes a linux-image-generic and I don't notice, I get lots of calls that the users cannot boot. The vmlinuz image is chmod 600, but for NFS root-boot needs to be 644. This is a very annoying (but not urgent) bug. Please fix so that new kernels are installed chmod 644 (as all other distros do). [Bug 1411248] Re: Kernel oops: USB Failed to set U1 timeout
Thanks for your replay, Joseph Salisbury. I am not aware that this issue started after an upgrade, at least not after which one. I will test the 3.19 kernel as you suggested. As I cannot provoke this behaviour reliably, I'm going to wait for a kernel oops with the upstream kernel for a month before (hopefully) tagging 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. [Bug 1411193] Re: [Asus F200MA] bluetooth not working
sorry; this is in fact what I meant: I tried to enable bluetooth with the panel System/preferences/bluetooth (not with the indicator since I have no indicator); so I switched to on the slider in the panel, and, immediately after this, I got the error message (in the notification panel). [Bug 1383214] Re: msiexec no longer works
The above mentioned bug is a dupe of https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36139. This bug causes quite many windows programs to fail to install with wine. Upstream suggests in the bugreport to reach out for the packagers, what seems not to have happened yet, so here we are. (ARCH and Debian already fixed it in their 1.6 packages.) It affects wine in utopic (and probably vivid) , but afaik not trusty (I assume there an older gcc is used). [Bug 1403841] Re: libvirt snapshot does not save source in xml
If I'm understanding the git log correctly, tracking of full backing chains for disk sources is simply not yet implemented in 1.2.2. (See commit 4f20226664 for the start of that feature). That sadly places the apparmor issue out of scope for 14.04. I will push a fix for the core issue (using commit 9036b31a) to trusty-proposed. [Bug 1407714] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From helle...@us.ibm.com 2015-01-15 18:18 EDT--- Hi Ubuntu, We have noticed that the powerpc and ppc64el server ISO images do not include the netboot kernel/initrd, as do the amd64 ISOs. There are other kernel/initd on the disc but they are apparently not suitable for netboot (i.e.. missing network drivers) and so we need to bring in the netboot files from some other source (download). This is also a issue for mgmt systems such as xCAT, which typically set up netboot by pulling the kernel/initrd off the ISO. So, xCAT can do this for amd64, but not for ppc. Is there a reason why this is? If not, we would like to have the netboot kernel/initrd included on the ISO. [Bug 1411361] [NEW] kernel 3.13.0-44 doesn't poweroff (shutdown) with WoL enabled
Public bug reported: This bug is similar to Bug #1346269. I successfully used to use WoL (wake on lan) since Sep. 2014 with Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS on my ASUS P9D-X Server. After I updated to kernel 3.13.0-44 this feature broke and my server always restarted when I issued a 'poweroff'. I disabled WoL for PCI and PCIe in the APM settings in BIOS and poweroff worked as it should, but then Wake on LAN is gone which is not a nice setting for a server in a closet. So I reverted to 3.13.0-43 and the problem was gone. Thus something in kernel -44 must have changed to the worse. [Bug 1411365] Re: UVC Random crashes
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.19 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance.
